Iowan contracts measles but no 'threat to public,' health department says

The Iowa Department of Public Health announced Monday that a person living in northeast Iowa has contracted measles.

In a news release, the department said the Iowan was not vaccinated and caught the sickness while on a trip in Israel, where recent outbreaks have been reported.

"There is no indication there is any threat to the public" at this time, the department said. Public health officials are working with the infected person as well as people potentially exposed.

It's the first case of confirmed measles in Iowa since 2011...

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) ? State health officials say Iowa has confirmed its second case of measles since 2011.

Iowa Public Health Department said Thursday that the unvaccinated person is a household contact with the person in the first case, who also unvaccinated. The department says the first person contracted measles while on a trip to Israel, where outbreaks have been reported...
