HSE team fights gay chlamydia outbreak

THE HSE has convened an outbreak control team to deal with a rare type of chlamydia among men who have sex with men.

The outbreak of Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) in the HSE East region is being investigated by an LGV Outbreak Control Team following 35 notified cases of the sexually transmitted infection since last May.

The outbreak, the first of its kind in Ireland, was declared last October. All cases are men who have sex with men and most are also HIV-positive...
