A few hours before Christmas, the avian flu nightmare returns for farmers in the province of Treviso. The ULSS 2 has in fact discovered in the past few hours a new outbreak in a family-run farm in the Municipality of Fonte.

As a purely preventive measure, the health authority has established a sensitive area with a radius of 10 kilometers up to the territory of Pieve del Grappa. The ULSS 2 then reassured citizens by stressing that there is no health emergency for the population and no risk for the consumption of regularly marketed meat and eggs. The outbreak was immediately isolated while the Fonte farm was put under strict veterinary control to prevent the spread of avian flu to other neighboring farms as well.

The main measures in force for the 10-kilometer area are: the ban on fairs, markets and poultry gatherings, the obligation to keep poultry indoors or protected from wild birds, strengthened veterinary controls and stricter rules for the movement of animals. Finally, poultry farmers and keepers will have to comply with the instructions of the veterinary services, adopt all biosecurity measures and report any abnormal mortality.
