Outbreak of avian, from the more virulent H5N1 strain, in the Nardone chicken farm in Fagagna. This is the zootechnical reality that, over the weekend, ended up in the crosshairs of thieves.
The criminals had stolen the diesel used for the machines used in the ventilation of the sheds. With no more oxygen, more than 15,000 chickens had died. Some of the carcasses, as usual, had been sent to the Zooprophylactic Institute for the verification of the possible presence of pathogens.
Tests, the latter, which were found to be positive for avian flu, which is not transmissible to humans.
As Manlio Palei, Director of the Food Safety, Veterinary and Public Health Prevention Service of the Region explains, "in these cases the entire shed is isolated, awaiting the arrival of a specialized company that will provide for the killing of all the other animals. alive, and therefore to their destruction ”.
On the other hand, the second warehouse of the company, also in Fagagna, would not be involved in the avian outbreak. There is no danger to people.
The last outbreak of H5N1, on an industrial level, dates back to five years ago and involved, in a much less important way, a small farm in Pordenone.
