Pollution in Rio Cobre could cause disease outbreak

DR JEAN Dixon, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health, said the ministry will be working with the relevant government agencies and various communities in order to reduce the level of contamination in Rio Cobre, as it could seriously affect the health of persons in the area.
"It is not a healthy situation to have household waste contaminating the environment and the ministry of health will have to work with other agencies of the Government and the communities to reduce the impact," Dixon said.
Possible outbreak
Her comments came after the St Catherine Health Department said contamination of the Rio Cobre that runs through St Catherine could lead to an outbreak of deadly diseases in the parish.
