Viral fever, allergy strike

BANGALORE: City hospitals are witnessing an increase in the number of patients complaining of viral fever, skin allergy and rashes.
Dr Viswaradhya, Medical Superintendent, KC General Hospital, attributed it to change in weather conditions and fluctuating temperature. He said they were seeing an increase of about 25 per cent in the number of patients complaining of viral fever.
?We are getting about 20-30 cases of viral fever every day. We have also been seeing cases of allergy and skin infection caused by contaminated water,? he said.
Dr Kishore Kumtakar, RMO at Jayanagar General Hospital, said for the past few days, they had been getting 30-40 cases of viral fever in the out-patient department. He said they were also getting about five-six cases of gastroenteritis, mostly children, and other allergies caused by rain water.
Private hospitals too are witnessing an increase in the number of such patients. Dr H Paramesh, Medical Superintendent, Lakeside Hospital, said: ?At the OPD, we are seeing around 60-70 cases of viral fever, of which about two per cent need to be admitted.?
Many people are developing skin rashes and allergy and are consulting dermatologists in this regard.
?I had allergy in my left foot. While coming back from office, I used to get drenched and I did not care. Two days ago, I realised that it had started spreading and I had to see a dermatologist,? said Aradhana, a government employee and a resident of J P Nagar.
Dr Viswaradhya stressed that one should take precautionary measures to avoid contacting such diseases. ?One needs to take measures to protect oneself from mosquito bite first. Water is a major carrier of viral infection. Drinking boiled water, especially during this season, is a must. Besides, food items and vegetables should be washed and cooked properly before consumption,? he said.
