RIGA - With 15 new cases of African swine fever (ASF) recorded in Latvia?s wild boar population in the outgoing week, first cases of the disease were found also in the western Latvian counties of Turlava and Bunka, according to information released by the Latvian Food and Veterinary Service.

Turlava in the region of Kuldiga and Bunka in the region of Priekule had remained ASF-free until now.

This brings the total number of ASF cases recorded in Latvia?s wild boar population so far this year to 65. The infection has affected wild boars in 47 counties in 29 regions of Latvia.

The ASF outbreak started in Latvia in June 2014 not far from the border with Belarus...

First African swine fever infection case found for domestic pigs in Kuldiga

This year’s first African swine fever outbreak has been found among domestic pigs in Kuldiga. The illness was found among domestic pigs in Kuldiga County’s Gudenieki Parish in Krauļi, as confirmed by Food and Veterinary Service (PVD).

The service is currently performing preventive measures. 31 pigs have been put down.

A quarantine has been announced – a protection zone within 3 km radius and monitoring zone within 10 km radius around the farm impacted by the illness. Within this territory PVD will perform intense monitoring of local pig population. Special attention is paid to transportation of pigs and their meat, stresses PVD...
