Case of measles confirmed on North Shore

BOSTON ? The Hinton State Laboratory on Tuesday confirmed the first case of measles in the Commonwealth this year, in a visiting student from Western Europe.
The student visited the Cape Ann Museum in Gloucester on the afternoon of Thursday, April 23. He or she also rode the commuter rail to and from the Hamilton Station on Friday, April 24.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD ? An unvaccinated child visiting the island from out of state has been diagnosed with measles.
Martha's Vineyard Hospital released a list of public places the child visited between June 8 and June 17, the dates when the illness was most likely to be contagious...
...The hospital said the child visited the following places, but this is not a complete list:
West Tisbury Public Library - June 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Aquinnah Library - June 9, 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. & June 11, 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Martha?s Vineyard Airport Laundromat (West Tisbury) - June 12, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Hospital officials said the response to what appeared to be a health emergency was not wasted effort.
A diagnosis of measles, confirmed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, that galvanized Martha?s Vineyard Hospital into organizing two free vaccination clinics and spurred a full-scale public health alert across the Island, was incorrect.
The change in diagnosis followed advanced testing of samples sent to the federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention.
