MADRID, Jan 13 (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Comunitat Valenciana, with 115 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, is still below the national average.
Influenza activity has exceeded the basal threshold set for the season 2010-2011 (67.4 cases) except Ceuta and Melilla to continue with a level of intensity. Thus, the community most affected remains Asturias, with 546.21 cases per 100,000 population, followed by La Rioja (393), Navarre (354), Basque Country (349) and Cantabria (221).

FLU predominated
Moreover, like last week, influenza activity is associated with the predominant circulating influenza A viruses (95%) between subtypes H1N1 (98%), while the viral detection rate decreases to 46 percent (62% in the previous report).
Since the beginning of the season have been reported 350 confirmed severe cases hospitalized, 205 (58.6%) were men and 145 (41.4%) women. Eight women were pregnant, seven (88%) over 24 weeks of gestation.
On 30 and 42 percent of the reported cases were in groups of 15-44 and 45-64 years respectively. The 87.4 percent were infections of influenza A/H1N1 virus. In addition, 83.5 percent of the cases included in he groups recommended for influenza vaccination had not been vaccinated this season.
Sixteen cases have died, 93 percent with risk factors. 90 percent of deaths within the groups recommended for vaccination, had not received the flu vaccine this season.
With the information available so far shows that 84 percent (179 of 213) of patients had some risk factor for complications of flu and 16 percent (34 of 213) had none.
In the week from 2 to 8 January 2011 the reported incidence of flu cases increased to 208.69 per 100,000, while a decrease in the outbreak of the disease taking into account the report of last week tripled cases produced so far (40 to 153 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).
