Chicken pox outbreak sends unimmunized students home

TRAVERSE CITY ? It won't be a snow day that will keep more than 35 elementary school students out of class in two local schools.

Those unimmunized students could be excluded from classes at Traverse City Area Public Schools' Interlochen Community School and the Montessori at Glenn Loomis school for 21 days following a chickenpox outbreak. TCAPS Superintendent Paul Soma said the decision ultimately came down to a recommendation from Grand Traverse County Health Department officials...

LANSING, Mich. - Following recent reports of varicella outbreaks around the state, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is advising parents to make sure their children are up to date on vaccinations against the disease, also known as chickenpox.
