Food for thought: John Oxford suggests that the mutated virus has no selective advantage over te strain that is circulating now, so probability of a mutated H1N1 this winter is not high. After a large population has been infected selective pressure will rise, possibly enabling a mutant to spread

My logic tells me something similar. Right now it's at an "all you can eat" buffet with no competition. Once herd immunity is widespread, it has a "need" to mutate.

Survival instincts usually involve the minimum energy expenditure necessary to persist.
