Netherlands: Twitter protest against antibiotic resistant bacteria in chickenmeat
99% of chickenmeat contaminated with ESBL-bacteria
januari 31 2012
#schonekip (#cleanchicken) is #1 trending topic on Twitter today in the Netherlands.
The Dutch Consumer Federation called for protest against the overuse of antibiotics in chickenfarms. Tests of chickenmeat revealed 99% was contaminated with ESBL's. Another bacteria you don't want in your body is Campylobacter: found in 60% of the samples.
Recently similar % of ESBL contamination of chickenmeat was found in Germany.
Probably this is the new "normal" in all western countries these days.
ESBL-bacteria won't harm you or kill you right away. However once you, or a loved one, are in hospital, doctors could have a hard time to cure their patient.
