Dutse?A member of Jigawa State House of Assembly, representing Birniwa Local Government, Alhaji Musa Hassan Birniwa, drew the attention of the House over the death about 150 persons in Birniwa local government council in Jigawa State following an out break of fever in his area.
Alhaji Hassan told the House that the affected persons died in Kandawa and Gomari villages Birniwa local government area in his constituency following an outbreak of a severe fever epidemic in the area.
According to him about 87 people died in Kandawa village alone while in Gomari 40 persons are said to have died of the epidemic, leaving many more sick. The House in its sitting passed a resolution that the Executive arm should try to provide necessary drugs to contain the situation which it described as alarming and very disturbing.
And considering the seriousness of the case, the House constituted a five man committee headed by the Majority Leader, Honourable Adamu Ja?afar Kukuma to pay condolences to the families of the deceased in the two communities.
Sunday Vanguard gathered that the victims of the fever died because the affected villages in Birniwa Local Government have no access road, no school nor dispensaries to cater for minor sicknesses.
Reacting to the epidemic, the secretary to the state government, Dr. Aminu Abdullahi, explained that already government has responded to the situation promptly, saying that the government purchased drugs and mosquito nets, which were distributed free of charge to the people in the area.
Dr. Abdullahi further reiterated the state government commitment towards the well being of its people, declaring that the situation is now under control, adding the present administration has health care delivery as one of its priority.
