Measles Exposure at Multiple Locations in Brampton Between March 12 ? 17, 2016​

[TD="colspan: 2, align: left"] Brampton, ON (March 19, 2016) ? Peel Public Health is investigating a confirmed case of measles in a child from Brampton who traveled to a measles-endemic country just prior to becoming ill. Members of the public may have been exposed to measles in a number of settings in Brampton during the period of March 12 ? 17, 2016.
Anyone who was in the following places DURING THE TIMES LISTED may have been exposed to measles. The virus can only live outside the body (e.g., on surfaces and door handles) for up to two hours, so people who visited these locations at other times were not exposed.

• March 12, Gurdwara Sikh Sangat Temple, 32 Regan Road, Brampton, 11 a.m. ? 2:30 p.m.
• March 12, Walmart Brampton South Supercentre, 15 Resolution Drive, Brampton, 2 ? 6 p.m.
• March 12, Shoppers World Brampton, 499 Main Street South, Brampton, 3 ? 7 p.m.
• March 14, Dr. Anis Fatima's office, Shoppers World Medical Centre & Walk-In Clinic, 499 Main Street South, Brampton, 5:30 ? 9 p.m.
• March 16, Dr. Anis Fatima's office, Shoppers World Medical Centre & Walk-In Clinic, 499 Main Street South, Brampton, 10:30 a.m. ? 2 p.m.
• March 16, William Osler Health Centre, Brampton Civic Site, Emergency Department, 2100 Bovaird Drive East, Brampton, 6:50 p.m. ? midnight
• March 17, William Osler Health Centre, Brampton Civic Site, Emergency Department, 2100 Bovaird Drive East, Brampton, midnight ? 11:35 a.m.

Visitors to the identified locations during the times noted should do the following:

• Check your immunization records to make sure you and your children have had two doses of the measles vaccine (MMR or MMRV). Your child's immunization record (yellow card) or your doctor can provide you with this information. Two doses of measles vaccine are recommended for anyone born after 1969.
• Watch for symptoms of measles until 21 days after possible exposure. These include a high fever; cold-like symptoms (cough/runny nose); sore eyes or sensitivity to light; small spots with a white centre on the inside of the mouth; and a red rash lasting four to seven days.

Peel Public Health is working with the health care settings to identify and follow up with anyone who visited the above locations during the times listed and may be at risk. Anyone who shows symptoms should call their health care provider immediately and tell them they have been exposed to measles and feel unwell. DO NOT go to any medical facility without telling them before the appointment that you have been in contact with someone who has measles.
Measles is a highly contagious disease that spreads easily to those who are not immune or are vulnerable. Anyone who has not had two doses of a measles vaccine (MMR or MMRV) or who has not had measles in the past is at risk of infection. Infants under one year of age, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems can get very ill with measles.

3 measles cases confirmed in Ottawa, Lanark County
Undervaccinated children exposed to outbreak will be kept out of school, says OPH

Health officials say they'll be keeping any incompletely vaccinated or unvaccinated children exposed to three measles cases in Ottawa and Lanark County out of school until they're fully protected.

The three cases, all related, were confirmed on Sunday by an Ottawa Public Health spokesperson to involve children. The cases are now being investigated by OPH and the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit.

All three were either unvaccinated or had not received all of their measles vaccines, the City of Ottawa said in a release...

The Real Canadian Superstore on Eagleson Road and the Lone Star restaurant on Carling Avenue at March Road are listed as possible exposure locations after Ottawa Public Health confirmed three related cases of measles in unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated individuals in Ottawa and Lanark County...

Exposure to measles no longer suspected at four following locations

One of three cases of measles confirmed last weekend was determined to be negative after further lab tests, according to Ottawa Public Health...

...Exposure to measles, which is highly contagious, is no longer suspected at the following locations:

Carleton Place Hospital (211 Lake Ave E, Carleton Place).
Carlingwood Shopping Centre (2121 Carling Ave, Ottawa).
Kanata Superstore (760 Eagleson Road, Ottawa).
Lone Star Restaurant (4048 Carling Ave, Ottawa).

On Sept. 3, regional health officials confirmed that two children and one adult ? who were either were not vaccinated or did not have complete vaccinations in Ottawa and Lanark County ? were being treated for measles.

Public Health is still warning of possible exposure at the following locations and times:

The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (401 Smyth Rd, Ottawa):

Emergency Room: August 22, 2016, 2 p.m. to August 23, 2016, 2:30 a.m.
Inpatient Ward 4 East: August 23, 2016, midnight to August 23, 2016, 11:59 p.m., August 25, 2016, 8 a.m. to August 28, 2016, 8 p.m.

The Ottawa Hospital (General Campus) (501 Smyth Road, Ottawa):

Emergency Room: August 23, 2016, noon to August 24, 2016,1 a.m.
