The Pennsylvania Department of Health has issued a health advisory concerning a recent outbreak of Shigellosis, a bacterial infection in the gastrointestinal system.
State health officials said the disease has been identified in four counties including York and Dauphin County, namely in daycare centers, among school-aged children and young adults.
"You get infected by eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water or getting in contact with the stool of someone who has shigellosis," said Veronica Urdaneta, with the Pennsylvania Department of Health. "People do get sick and they get diarrhea and vomiting and fever and they get sick for a few days."
Other symptoms of shigellosis include fever, abdominal pains and traces of blood or mucous in the stool...
