Lampung ? Bird flu or avian influenza H5N1 virus attacked birds in Dusun Rawa Kijing, Desa Sindang Garut, Kecamatan (sub-district) Kedondong, Kabupaten (municipal) Pesawaran, Lampung province. About 25 chickens suddenly died and tested positive H5N1.

Head of Livestock division of Agriculture and Livestock Service of Kabupaten Pesawaran, Emi Yeni Erniati said this incident had been controlled by Livestock Services and Participatory Disease Surveillance and Response (PDSR).

People tended to dispose dead chickens to rivers that had caused flood and flowed dead chickens back to people residences and spread disease.

Nevertheless, Emi said, bird flu case is decreasing compared to previous month. Emi also requested people to house their birds for 14 days to suppress disease prevalence.

Until now, seven sub-districts in Kabupaten Pesawaran have been infected by bird flu H5N1.
