ILOILO City ? Thirty-eight people in Western Visayas died of dengue as the number of cases reached almost 6,000, according to the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6.

Among provinces, Negros Occidental still had the most number of cases while majority of those struck by the viral disease were girls aged one to 10 years old, records showed.

DOH-6 monitored 5,583 cases from January to July 28, said Dr. Rose Marie Lamirez, the agency?s dengue medical program coordinator.

Negros Occidental had 2,623 cases with 22 deaths. In the same period last year it had 1,848 cases with 24 deaths ? also the most-affected province at the time...

BAGUIO CITY ? Six people succumbed to dengue and leptospirosis in the past seven months in the Cordillera, as cases of the weather-induced virus infections climbed in the highland region amid the unabated heavy monsoon rains.

Geeny Anne Austria, a nurse at the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) of the Department of Health (DOH) in Cordillera, said Tuesday the number of dengue cases in the region nearly doubled this year to 2,447 from 1,430 in the same period last year, with five deaths registered from Jan. 1 to Aug. 4 this year.

Last year, dengue took the lives of three people, she said.

On leptospirosis, Austria said the uptrend is 32 percent, recording 41 cases this year from 31 cases in the same period in 2017. One death was noted in Benguet province this year.

For dengue, Benguet recorded the most cases with 656; Kalinga had 522; Apayao, 448; Abra, 317; Baguio City, 268; Mountain Province, 129; and Ifugao, 107.

As for leptospirosis, Benguet again recorded the most cases, with eight; Baguio and Kalinga had five each; Apayao and Ifugao with four each; Abra has two cases, while Mountain Province has one.

There were also 12 cases involving residents from non-Cordillera provinces, who sought medical aid in the region, Austria said...

Dengue cases in Bacolod City drop by 41%

BACOLOD CITY -- The City Health Office (CHO) here has reported a 40.9 percent decline in dengue cases from January 1 to August 4 this year.

Data released by the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit showed that as of Monday, a total of 508 cases, including three deaths, were recorded during the period compared to the previous year?s 859, with seven deaths.

Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environment Sanitation Division, said increased public awareness has contributed to the decrease in the number of cases.

Residents have become conscious of how to eliminate breeding places of dengue-carrying mosquitoes, she added.

?We are continuing our advocacy. We (also) give flyers to business establishments when they secure business permits. They can post these for dengue awareness,? Tan said.

The CHO report showed that the dengue patients? ages ranged from four months to 72 years old, and the age group with the most number of cases consisted of children aged 1 year to 10 years old.

Of the three deaths, two were reported by the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) and one by the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center (BAMC).

Of the 508 cases, a total of 200 were brought to the CLMMRH, while the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Sr. Memorial Hospital reported 84 cases. These hospitals received the highest number of dengue cases.

Barangay Mansilingan, which has a total of 43 cases, was identified as a ?hot spot?, which means it has an increasing number of cases for four consecutive weeks. A total of 17 cases were reported in the village in the past four morbidity weeks. However, no death was reported in Mansilingan.

The deaths were monitored in Sum-ag, Felisa and Pahanocoy.

The top 10 villages with the highest dengue cases were Handumanan, 47; Taculing, 45; Mansilingan, 43; Sum-ag, 41; Villamonte, 39; Singcang-Airport, 34; Alijis, 27; Estefania, 25; Mandalagan, 24; and Tangub, 24. (PNA)

A TOTAL of 1,429 dengue cases are recorded at the City Health Office from January to September this year.

City Health Officer Dr. Rachel Daba-Dilla said there are already 10 deaths caused by dengue reported in the same period of this year.

Also, 15 residents of Misamis Oriental, 12 from Bukidnon province, 1 from Camiguin, and 1 from Oroquieta died due to dengue.

Compared to the same period last year, Dilla said the recorded deaths due to dengue has increased this year, but she however pointed out that the increase is expected based on their projection...

ILOCUS SUR, Philippines ? The Department of Health (DOH) said latest data showed that 19 out of 154 children who died after receiving at least one dose of Dengvaxia, had dengue despite the vaccination.

DOH Undersecretary Enrique Domingo said of the 19 individuals who had dengue, 6 were diagnosed clinically and 13 were confirmed to have the illness through laboratory tests. He gave the figures, which were as of September 14, to reporters during a forum of health journalists.

?Of those deaths, 19 were definitely due to dengue?. Meaning they were vaccinated with Dengvaxia and somehow the vaccine failed or caused severe effects,? he said on Wednesday, September 26.

But Domingo clarified there was still no solid evidence on whether or not the Dengvaxia vaccine itself directly caused the deaths. The vaccine, he said, may only be ?possibly related? and further studies over the next few years will be needed to establish it.

The latest figure is an increase in both the number of deaths and children who were confirmed to have dengue and died despite receiving the vaccine. In May 2018, Domingo said 11 out of 87 kids died of dengue despite Dengvaxia shot.

Meanwhile, the other 135 deaths were from non-dengue cases. Domingo said this means that those who died suffered from other illnesses including heart disease, pneumonia, central nervous system infections, leukemia, or asthma, among others, which occurred naturally.

Pangasinan dengue cases up by 87%

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has recorded 6,231 dengue cases from January 1 to September 24 this year, which is 87 percent more than the 3,331 cases during the same period last year.

Based on the surveillance data dated September 24, Urdaneta City reported the highest number of dengue cases with 501, followed by San Carlos City ? 382 cases, Pozorrubio ? 348, Alaminos City ? 322, Mangaldan ? 310, Bayambang ? 278, Asingan ? 276, Binmaley ? 260, Mapandan ? 226, and San Manuel ? 214.

PHO chief, Dr. Anna Teresa De Guzman, said there were 25 deaths from January 1 to September 24 this year, higher than the nine mortalities noted in the same period last year...

CAR dengue cases up 97%

BAGUIO CITY: The Department of Health-Cordillera Administrative Region (DoH-CAR) has reported that dengue fever cases nearly doubled during the first 40 weeks of this year.

From January 1 to October 6, 2018, the agency recorded about 5,921 dengue fever cases in the region compared to the 2,999 cases during the same period last year.

The DoH-CAR also reported 11 dengue-related deaths in the region with eight coming from the Cordillera and three from non-CAR provinces.

Of the eight deaths in CAR, two each came from Abra, Benguet and Baguio City and one each from Ifugao and Kalinga...

Dengue cases in the Philippines this year have increased by 21 percent.

The Department of Health (DOH) Dengue Surveillance Division said that from January 1 to October 6, over 138,000 individuals have contracted dengue.

This is a big jump from the 114,000 dengue cases recorded in the same period last year.

The highest number of cases were recorded in Central Luzon followed by NCR,Region 4-A, Ilocos Region and Western Visayas...

Nine deaths due to Dengue from January to October

The City Health Office (CHO) reported yesterday that at least nine dengue patients have already died while 1,437 persons have been afflicted with the disease from January to October, this year.

Assistant City Health Officer, Dr. Kibtiya Uddin disclosed that for the month of October this year, a total of 165 cases have been registered compared to the same month last year with only 88 cases.

However, Uddin said these cases have not yet reached the alert level compared to last year...

Pangasinan?s dengue, lepto cases on the rise

DAGUPAN CITY -- The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has advised Pangasinenses to maintain clean surroundings and to immediately seek medical attention for early symptoms, following the 67.14-percent increase in the number of dengue cases and 140.31-percent rise in leptospirosis cases in the province.

The PHO recorded 7,777 dengue cases in the entire province from Jan. 1 to Nov. 19 this year, 3,124 cases higher than the 4,653 cases during the same period last year, Rodhalia Binay-an, coordinator at the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the PHO, said in an interview Tuesday.

In August alone, 1,990 cases of dengue were noted with 25 deaths, nine cases higher than the disease?s mortality rate in 2017, Binay-an said.

TAGBILARAN CITY ? The rising number of dengue fever patients in the provinces of Bohol and Northern Samar has alarmed health officials, as cases have surpassed figures recorded last year.

Records from the Department of Health (DOH)-Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit in Central Visayas showed that dengue cases in Bohol reached 2,057 with 37 deaths from Jan. 1 to Nov. 8.

The figures were 125.55 percent higher than the 912 cases and five deaths reported over the same period last year.

The provincial health office (PHO) in Northern Samar recorded 1,073 cases with six deaths from January to Nov. 13 this year...

Cebu province experienced a steep rise in the cases of dengue from August to December this year compared to the same period in 2017, the health department announced on Friday.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) said there were 3,673 cases of dengue reported from August to December 2018 which is almost 2,000 cases higher than the 1,763 cases recorded in the last five months of last year.

The PHO data covered the 50 cities and municipalities of Cebu.

In total, there were 5,093 dengue cases logged for the entire 2018 which is 179 cases higher than the 4,914 recorded in 2017...

ILOILO ? The Provincial Health Office (PHO) recorded 2,193 dengue cases ? with six deaths ? last year from Jan. 1 to Dec. 22.

The municipality of Dumangas had the most number of cases at 232 but with no deaths, said PHO chief Dr. Patricia Grace Trabado.

The Dumangas dengue patients immediately sought medical help so their illness did not worsen, she said...

Dengue cases rise 106% in Eastern Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY ? The Department of Health (DOH) in Eastern Visayas recorded a 106-percent increase in dengue cases in the region last year.

DOH Regional Director Minerva Molon said there were 9,784 cases with 50 deaths.

The figure was the second highest since 2010 where there were 12,022 dengue cases, Molon said...
