Two die of swine flu at city hospital

Ludhiana, February 7

Two patients belonging to Sangrur and Hoshiarpur died of swine flu at SPS Hospital here. The patient belonging to Sangrur was a 34-year-old woman while the one from Hoshiarpur was a 55-year-old man.
Dr Ramesh, District Epidemiologist, said both patients were from other districts.
He said of 20 patients with suspected swine flu in the district, two tested positive. One patient died in January.

In less than two months, two out of four persons diagnosed with swine flu have died in SAS Nagar, one child has been tested positive for the virus in Chandigarh and cases are being reported daily from adjoining states at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).

?December to March is the usual time when this virus becomes active and a large number of cases are reported. The previous year was an exception as several cases were reported in July and August due to change in the virus strain,? said Dr Gagandeep Singh, nodal officer, H1N1, Punjab.

About 56 persons from Chandigarh alone were diagnosed with swine flu in 2017, six of whom died. In Punjab, 239 people tested positive in 2017 of which 72 died.

Nine people have died so far because of the ailment in Punjab this year.

40-year-old swine flu patient dies

Patiala, November 14

A 40-year-old woman, who tested positive for swine flu and was admitted at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, died on Tuesday. The deceased belonged to Mansa district. This was the first death due to swine flu this season in the state. The woman was admitted to the hospital on Friday after her health had deteriorated. Following the death, the state health authorities have put all government hospitals on alert. The woman tested positive for the disease on Monday.
