"We have evaluated the situation in counties Brasov, Vrancea, Bacau, Covasna, Buzau, Valcea and Sibiu. At the moment there are 18 confirmed outbreaks, 16 of which in Brasov county ? two at Drakom and PatiProd farms and 14 in localities where all the poultry is being culled," the minister told a press conference Thursday evening.
The most suspicions are also in Brasov (11 localities), three more in Bacau county, one in Buzau, three in Vrancea, four in Valcea and one in Sibiu, the minister added.
As for the consumption of poultry meat, Flutur said that almost the entire quantity that was sold by farms in Codlea has been taken off the market.
The general director in the Ministry of Health Rodica Costinea said at the conference that there are no suspicions of bird flu cases in human, but specialists insist upon preventive measures and surveillance. Apart from the "Matei Bals" Institute in Bucharest that has the necessary equipment, a wing of the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Brasov will be prepared Friday for any cases that might come up in the area.
