The Ministry of Health confirms a total of 5,580 measles cases have been reported to the Disease Surveillance Team, since the outbreak started. There were 28 recorded in the last 24 hours.
There are currently 64 measles cases who are in-patients at all health facilities. Of this, 51 are at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital (TTMH), 1 at Lalomanu District Hospital, 8 at the Leulumoega Rural District Hospital, 2 at the Malietoa Tanumafili II Hospital (MTIIH), and 2 at Foailalo District Hospital. Admissions include 6 critically ill children and 3 adults in ICU/HDU, plus 3 pregnant women at the TTMH Maternity Ward.
The total number of measles cases admitted to all hospitals recorded for the outbreak to date is 1,810. Of that, 1,667 (92%) patients have been discharged.
To date, 79 measles related deaths have been recorded. There were no fatalities in the last 24 hours...

UPDATE ON THE MEASLES OUTBREAK

The Ministry of Health confirms a total of 5,612 measles cases have been reported to the Disease Surveillance Team, since the outbreak started. There were 9 recorded in the last 24 hours for Upolu. There were no new cases for Savai’i.
There are currently 43 measles cases who are in-patients at all health facilities. Of this, 37 are at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital (TTMH), 2 at the Leulumoega Rural District Hospital, 1 at Poutasi, 1 at Lalomanu District Hospital and 2 at the Malietoa Tanumafili II Hospital (MTIIH). Admissions include 7 critically ill children and 3 adult in ICU/HDU.
The total number of measles cases admitted to all hospitals recorded for the outbreak to date is 1,823. Of that, 1,699 (93%) patients have been discharged.
To date, 81 measles related deaths have been recorded, with 1 fatality (child under 5 years old) in the last 24 hours.
VACCINATION UPDATE:
As of December 25, 2019, approximately 95% of all eligible people in Samoa have been vaccinated against measles.
NEOC continues to be the focal point providing collaboration and operational coordination amongst all stakeholders, with advice and technical guidance from MOH for the duration of the Emergency Period.

Samoa lifts measles state of emergency

The state of emergency in Samoa, declared due to the measles epidemic, has ended following a special Cabinet meeting.

At today's meeting, Cabinet unanimously approved the cancellation of the State of Emergency Orders in place.

In its decision, Cabinet has approved the State of Recovery for Samoa to commence immediately.

For the Recovery Phase, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are tasked with the preparations of the Recovery Plan to be tabled for Cabinet's consideration in two weeks from today.

Cabinet has also instructed that all works which were centralised and conducted by the National Emergency Operation Center, during the crisis are to be referred to the Health Emergency Operation Center for continuation...

Two more deaths from measles in Samoa over New Year period
6:30 am today

Two more people died from measles in Samoa over the New Year period.

The Ministry of Health said the two fatalities, an infant and and adult, died between 29 December and 5 January, taking the death toll from the outbreak to 83.

The ministry said 30 new cases of measles were reported during same the period.

It says as of Monday, 6 January, there have been 5697 measles cases reported to the Disease Surveillance Team since the outbreak started in October...
