A man dies of influenza A (H1N1)
(Shawinigan) A fifties in the region died at the end of last week, following complications related to influenza A (H1N1).
According to Radio-Canada Mauricie reported his death yesterday, the man was traveling to Cuba when he felt the first symptoms of influenza. His condition worsened until his return to Quebec earlier this month. He had presented to hospital in Shawinigan, where we confirmed the diagnosis of influenza A (H1N1). The man was then transferred to a specialized center in Montreal, where he died last Sunday.
In an interview with Radio-Canada Mauricie, the Director of Public Health of the Mauricie, Dr. Gilles W. Grenier said it was an isolated case. It is unclear whether the man contracted the virus in Qu?bec or while he was in Cuba.
The man suffered from asthma and did not receive the vaccine.
In the region of the Mauricie and Centre-du-Qu?bec, this death brings to six the number of victims of the influenza A (H1N1). Recently it was reported that 265 people whose average age was 28 years old were hospitalized and 34 people were admitted to intensive care. The average age of five died before last Sunday was 63 years.
