May 6, 2010, 7:53 Guatemala, May 6 (Prensa Latina) The influenza A (H1N1) regrow in Guatemala and now have six deaths from this cause in the course of this year.

A report from the National Epidemiology Center, reprinted in the press, claimed to be 55 cases of people infected with the pathogen recorded.

Half of the deaths reported occurred in the department of Guatemala, where sits the capital, and the rest was distributed in Jalapa, Santa Rosa and Alta Verapaz.

The Center's acting director, Antonio Paredes, said that from next June the number of cases may grow to be a trend similar to last year, the newspaper Prensa Libre.

He added that in 2009 18 people died in Guatemala on that account and in total there were 92 thousand infections.

As part of efforts to prevent a new outbreak of Avian Influenza A (H1N1), the Ministry of Health in April began a vaccination campaign to implement the first stage to doctors and pregnant women, the paper said.

GUATEMALA, 6 (Reuters) - Six people died and 55 were infected from January to April this year in Guatemala, because of the influenza A virus H1N1, health authorities said today.
The director of the National Epidemiology Center, Antonio Paredes, said that three of the deaths caused by this virus were reported in areas of Jalapa, Santa Rosa and in Alta Verapaz.
The departments with the largest number of infections observed were Guatemala, Jutiapa, Santa Rosa and Quetzaltenango.
During 2009, 18 people died of influenza A H1N1 and 1,092 were infected by the virus, said the expert.
The Pan American Health 260 000 vaccines donated to Guatemala, which in a first step apply to personal health, medical, pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses, police, pilots and firefighters, said Paredes. DFB
