Juba, South Sudan 06 March 2019: More than 75,000 measles vaccines have been airlifted to South Sudan?s Gogrial West County in response to an outbreak declared by the State Ministry of Health. There are 98 suspected measles cases, with one death reported. Medair, an international humanitarian organisation, has mobilized an Emergency Response Team to vaccinate children under five years of age in an area where the population is estimated at over 400,000 people. Wau 25, June, 2019 [GURTONG] - At least five children have been reported died in Wau due to outbreak of measles at the protection of civilians? sites in the town.
According to health partners, the disease started since the beginning of June, killing five children at the UN protection sites and continues spreading to other collective, including the Wau Cathedral Church site and Masana Biir, where the displaced people are sheltering.
