From my reading of this article, does it specifically say that the 2 whose were vaccinated are now ill with A/H1N1? The article implies it but does not specifically state it.

Yes, the two cases are vaccinated and this represents a vaccine failure.

The current status of the two remains unknown from this article, but it clearly states that these cases were postive for pH1N1 and they were or are sick.

From the Influenza surveillance report:

Since the beginning of the season 2010-20110 23 severe cases have been hospitalized confirmed with influenza; 18 (78%) were men and 5 (22%) women. Of the five women, one was 31 weeks pregnant. Two cases (9%) were under three years, 12 (52%) were in the range of 15-44 years and nine (39%) in the 45-64 years age.

Fifteen of them have been confirmed influenza virus AnH1N1, 1 AH3N2, 1 B and 6 influenza A not subtyped.

So far, with the information available; eleven of the cases (58%)
had some risk factors and 8 (42%) had no risk factors.

Sixteen cases developed pneumonia (16/20), four had bacterial co-infection
(4 / 16), 11 acute respiratory distress syndrome (11/21) and three multi-organ failure (3 / 17).

Fifteen cases (15/22) were admitted to the ICU.

Of the 18 cases in which information is available on influenza vaccination status in the 2010-2011 season, only one was vaccinated.

The Autonomous Community of Catalonia may be reporting a bit later, this might be the explanation of the differences between the national influenza report from the autonomous communities one. Also, as stated above there's only information available on 18 patients, so other explanation would be that they have collected more data from different surveillance systems across the country.

On the other hand, this is information on severe cases that wouldn't mean we don't have more people with vaccination history.

We have 5 cases vaccinated in the last reporting period (week-50), these are all from sentinel sources and from the surveillance of severe cases we know at least 1 case with vaccination history. In week-49 there wasn't any case that had taken the vaccine.

The 2 vaccinated cases form the autonomous community of Catalonia are likely included in this report below;



"...in the week 50/2010 132 samples have been sent to the laboratory system of which 37 were positive for influenza virus which is a viral detection rate of 28.03% . Sentinel detections were distributed throughout the territory under surveillance: in Andalusia (2 B), Asturias (4 A not subtyped), Baleares (1 A not subtyped), Canary (1 B), Cantabria (1 AnH1N1), Castilla-La Mancha (1 AnH1N1), Castilla y Leon (3 AnH1N1 and 1 B), Catalonia (13, A not subtyped), Extremadura (1 AnH1N1), Madrid (2 AnH1N1), Basque Country (2 AnH1N1) and La Rioja (5 AnH1N1). Only five cases were confirmed with
influenza vaccination history.
