New Delhi: Delhi on Monday reported its fourth swine flu death when a 69-year-old man undergoing treatment at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital here, succumbed to the viral infection.

"The patient, who passed away this afternoon, tested positive for swine flu virus," NK Chaturvedi, medical superintendent, RML hospital said, adding, "This is the fourth case of death due to swine flu in Delhi."


The deceased, Durga Prasad Sharma, a resident of Tihar Jail Road was admitted to the hospital on August 28 for treatment of renal failure.

"His condition was very critical from the day he was admitted to the hospital. He was admitted for treatment of renal failure and also showed symptoms of swine flu. He was on ventilator and was undergoing dialysis. His test reports on August 1 confirmed him positive for the virus and died today at 11.30 am," Chaturvedi said.

Durga Prasad had earlier been to two private hospitals in the city before he was brought to RML hospital, he said.

Swine flu toll goes up

NEW DELHI: The death toll due to swine flu in the Capital has risen to four with a 69-year-old man, Durga Prasad, who tested positive for the flu late last month dying of chronic renal failure at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Central Delhi on Monday.

Meanwhile, 52 positive cases of swine flu were reported in the Capital on Monday. Of these, 29 are children.

Health Minister Kiran Walia said the situation was under control and advised people to visit a doctor at the earliest in case of any swine flu-like symptoms.
