Two Quebecers who died of H1N1 were healthy

MONTREAL ? The two most recent H1N1 deaths in Quebec were of adults aged 51 and 52 with no prior medical problems, Dr. Alain Poirier, Quebec's director of public health, said Monday as he reiterated an invitation for all Quebecers of every age to be inoculated.
The death toll in the flu bug?s second wave ? since Aug. 30 ? has reached 63, Poirier added during a regular media briefing.
Most of the health ministry?s indicators are showing that the second wave has peaked, Poirier told reporters.
Traffic through the province?s vaccination clinics was lower than capacity over the weekend he said, without providing exact figures but suggesting that about 280,000 people were vaccinated Saturday and Sunday:
?Maybe it was the Grey Cup.?
As of last Thursday, statistics on a government website show, slightly more than 2.4 million Quebecers had received the shot.
Poirier added that the vaccination rate for all of Quebec ? 35.7 per cent ? is slightly higher than the figure for Montreal alone, of 33.1 per cent.
Poirier said that 37 per cent of hospitalizations and 40 per cent of deaths are occurring in the 20 - 59 age bracket.
Among pregnant women, 51 per cent in the Montreal area have had the H1N1 shot, he said, versus 55.7 per cent across the province as a whole.
