The National Capital Region recorded its first swine flu fatality on Friday with a 51-year-old woman from Ghaziabad succumbing to the virus at a private hospital here.
Officials at the Sri Ganga Ram Hospital, where the patient was admitted said the woman had been moved from Columbia Asia Hospital in Ghaziabad a few days ago.
She was in a critical condition and had to be kept on ventilator support.
Meanwhile, all government hospitals have been put on alert by the Delhi Government?s health department. Hospitals have been asked to take appropriate measures to treat swine flu cases.
According to the Directorate of Health Services, six cases of swine flu have been reported in the national capital and its neighbouring region this month.

NOIDA: A 50-year-old woman has tested positive of swine flu virus in a private hospital in Noida. She was admitted in Jaypee Hospital with symptoms of fever, coughing and sore throat on December 20.
"Medical tests revealed the patient was suffering from H1N1 virus. Her condition was critical when she was put on ventilator," said Dr Naveen Verma, chief medical officer of Jaypee Hospital. Doctors said she responded to the medical treatment and is now improving. "She is recuperating in an isolated ward in ICU, and showing signs of recovery. We hope she will be discharged soon," Verma said. The patient, a housewife, is a resident of Ghaziabad.
On Thursday, a 40-year old woman suspected of carrying swine flu virus was admitted in Kailash Hospital. "We conducted primary examination and found symptoms of swine flu. We referred the patient to Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi," said V B Joshi, spokesperson, Kailash Hospital.
