Strategy to combat kala-azar revamped

VARANASI: Detection of a fresh case of kala-azar from a remote part of the district has forced district health administration to change its strategy that focussed on targeting sensitive areas for control of the vector-borne disease. While nearly all blocks of the district, except Badagaon, have been included in the kala-azar fortnight camp slated to be organised between February 1 to February 15, the district health administration is also eying the special mega kala-azar camp on January 25 to raise awareness and initiate on-the-spot screening and detection.
It might be mentioned that Vimla Devi (36), a native of Chandrawati village near Chaubeypur area in the district, was recently diagnosed with kala-azar fever, making it the first confirmed case of kala-azar reported in the district this year. The women is presently undergoing treatment at DDU district hopsital that has a special kala-azar ward.
