Fifth person dies in Uttarakhand due to swine flu

Dehradun, Nov 21 (PTI) One person succumbed to the deadly swine flu in Uttarakhand taking the toll in the state to five, official sources said.

According to Dr Pankaj Jain, the state's nodal officer, Principal of Saraf Public School Joseph John died yesterday at Bareilly.
John had gone recently to Thiruvananthpuram to attend a meet of school principals and returned to Khatima on November 10.

Jain also said that the 38-year-old John's preliminary reports tested positive of swine flu and his blood reports were sent to Delhi.

After his condition deteriorated, the Principal was shifted to Bareilly from Khatima, Jain said adding that on November 19, the state health department got his blood report and he was put on ventilator.

Apart from, John, till now four persons including a women had died due to the viral disease in the hill state, the nodal officer said.

Dehradun, Dec 1 (PTI) The swab samples of a person who died last week tested positive for the swine flu today, taking the total number of deaths due to the disease in Uttarakhand to six.

According to Pankaj Jain, state's nodal officer, the swab samples of 35-year-old Amit Saxena, who died on Nov 25 tested positive for the swine flu.

Saxena was earlier admitted to a local hospital here after he developed cold, cough and fever. But was rushed to a Bareilly hospital after his condition deteriorated.

A total of 92 cases including 67 in Dehradun have so far tested positive for the disease in the state, Jain said, adding, most of the cases have either been cured or their condition is improving.

A woman and a 12-year-old girl have died of swine flu in Uttarakhand, health officials confirmed today, as 13 more people tested positive for the deadly virus.

With this, the total number of deaths due to the infection has risen to eight in the state, officials said.

Paramjit Kaur of Udham Singh Nagar district and Shalu of Dehra Dun, who died at Doon hospital here on December 4, had swine flu, said nodal officer Pankaj Jain.

Jain said 13 new cases of swine flu have come to light in the hill state. Some of the serious patients are being referred to Delhi for better treatment, the officials said.

In the meantime, the state government has asked all the hospitals to maintain stocks of Tamiflu tablets while the doctors have been told to remain alert.

Nahan: Health department has started the investigation of another suspected death of swine flu. As per as the information Dhirendera Bansal of stauan died at Doon hospital of Utterakund on Friday, though there was no final opinion was available before the health department at this stage so department has started the investigation whether Bansal died with the swine flu or not. District surveillance officer Dr Sanjay Sharma said that taking the precautionary measures the medicine was distributed among the family members of the Bansal and the people who were in the contact of the deceased. He added that at this stage it could not be confirmed that the Bansal died due to the swine flu. So far in the district one person was died due to the swine flu and three cases were found positive.
