Vt. baby diagnosed with rare type of meningitis

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Inside a room at the University of Vermont Children's Hospital, 7-month-old Zakeyah Ferguson sleeps peacefully. She's been here for three weeks now-- the first two on a ventilator-- in a medically induced coma in the intensive care unit. She's battling bacterial meningitis.
"They knew something was wrong. Her fever went from 102 to 105.2 in two hours, and that was with Tylenol and ibuprofen in her," mom Kassie Ferguson said.
Zakeyah's mother and father say she declined rapidly in a matter of hours last month before doctors near their North Troy home in the Northeast Kingdom did a spinal tap, confirmed her life-threatening diagnosis and sent her to Burlington...
