St. Mike's Hospital is just one of a number of Toronto's medical institutions where the swine flu has turned up, Toronto Public Health says.

"It's to be expected," Anne Marie Aikins said today.

"With any kind of influenza outbreak you expect to see this among people who vulnerable, who are already ill."

The St. Mike's outbreak started June 13 and affected three people on one ward, none of them seriously. It hasn't spread beyond those three and Public Health is continuing to monitor the situation.

"They contained it and did whatever they were supposed to do," Aikins said. "There are other institutional outbreaks and that's absolutely normal for any influenza."

Meanwhile, three more people who tested positive for human swine flu have died, bringing to seven the number of potential victims in Ontario.

Most of these people had underlying medical conditions and it was not clear what role the H1N1 played in their deaths.

Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Arlene King said the most recent victims are a 17-year-old youth from the Ottawa area, a 52-year-old woman from Eastern Ontario and a 68-year-old man from Durham Region - all with other medical conditions.

The total number of H1N1 Ontario cases stood at 2,665 as of Monday, and 28 people required treatment in hospital.

The vast majority of cases have been mild.

"There continues to be a lot of activity with the H1N1 flu virus and Ontarians should remain vigilant in monitoring their health and those of their loved ones," King says in a statement. "People can protect themselves and those around them by washing hands frequently, coughing or sneezing into their sleeve, and staying at home if they are sick."

The 7th ON death, 68M (Durham region), was not announced previously, was it?
I'll add him to the tally.
