Egypt announces 110th discovered bird flu case

CAIRO, July 24 (KUNA) -- Egypt on Saturday announced the 110th discovered bird flu case in the country, saying the patient's condition is "critical".
"The 20-year-old female was transferred to Sadr al-Abbasiya Hospital in Cairo, as she was suffering from high temperature and breathing difficulties," Health Ministry Spokesman Dr. Abdulrahman Shahin told reporters.
The patient has been medicated with Tamiflu and is still under supervision, he noted.
Egypt had taken preventive measures to contain the pandemic since its outbreak in 2006, including restraints on mobilizing live birds between provinces, as well as banning the slaughtering of birds outside allocated locations among other precautions. (end) bna.hb KUNA 242149 Jul 10NNNN

Said Dr. Abdel Rahman Shahin, the new infection of a woman aged 20 years, and entered a hospital in the Abbasid on 21 July with a high temperature, difficulty in breathing and after exposure to birds suspected of being infected with bird flu, has been made to give Ms. Real Estate "Tamiflu" immediately, and her health is precarious and is still receiving treatment in hospital.

Dr Nabil Darwish, president of the General Union of Poultry Producers The strategy includes the disbursement of compensation to educators affected by bird flu as soon as the reporting of cases to their farms and noted that the Compensation Commission decided to grant 60% of the total cost of the farm affected if the early reporting of injuries and are granted 50% soil home.

وأكد الدكتور نبيل درويش أن الاتحاد العام لمنتجي الدواجن دبر نحو 350 مليون جنيه لمنحها كتعويضات للمربين المتضررين، كما أن الحكومة خصصت نحو 45 مليون جنيه لتوفير اللقاحات والأمصال للتحصين ضد أمراض الحيوانات وفى مقدمتها مرض أنفلونزا الطيور. The strategy includes 3 stages of implementation .. الأولى مرحلة السيطرة على المرض والتي تتضمن فهم الخصائص الوبائية لمرض أنفلونزا الطيور في مصر وتحديد مدى انتشارها ومراقبة الإجراءات المستدامة لمواجهة المرض.. The first stage to control the disease, which involves understanding the epidemiological characteristics of bird flu in Egypt and to determine the spread and control of sustained action to tackle the disease .. أما المرحلة الثانية فهي مرحلة التعزيز، وتتضمن تدعيم إجراءات الأمان الحيوي التي ثبت فاعليتها من حيث التكلفة في القطاعات التجارية الكبيرة واتخاذ إجراءات لتنظيم حركة الطيور من خلال سلسلة الإنتاج وتحسين سلوكيات الذبح وأسواق بيع التجزئة. The second phase is the consolidation phase, and include strengthening bio-security measures that have proven cost-effective in large-scale commercial sectors and take measures to regulate the movement of birds through a series of production and improve the behavior of slaughter and retail markets.

وفيما يتعلق بالمرحلة الثالثة فهي مرحلة القضاء على المرض وتعتمد هذه المرحلة على تعزيز عناصر الخدمات البيطرية الحكومية اللازمة للسيطرة على أمراض الدواجن وغيرها من أمراض الثروة الحيوانية وتحديد مدى انتشار مرض أنفلونزا الطيور في مصر وغيرها من العوامل الوبائية وتحديد العناصر الاقتصادية والثقافية لإنتاج الدواجن وتسويقها وتحديد نقاط التحكم الحرجة التي يمكن فيها التدخل لتنفيذ الإجراءات اللازمة مع تحسين الأمان الحيوي لكل قطاعات إنتاج الدواجن التجارية والمنزلية. The FAO reports the individual is from Shoubra el khamia (Shubra al Khaymah) which is located in the extreme southern portion of Al Qalyubiyah Governorate, just north of Cairo. The coordinates posted in the FAO report refer to the centroid of Al Qalyubiyah Governorate, not to the location of Shubra al Khaymah.

this area Shoubra el khamia is one giant urban city at this point which used to be. the largest farming area which was outside of cairo. currently we pretty much call it all shoubra.

the report does mention shoubra and it is for case 110

the article sharon posted also mentions the shoubra area as and ongoing issue from around the 8th of july based on the article.

The mohp has released a new report dated through the 27th of July.

The report indicates case 110 has expired while undergoing treatment in the governorate of Cairo the total death count for this Governorate has increased by one to 20 cases, cases of recovery remain listed as 59

the report adds two suspect case to the totals over a four day period which brings the total to 11,707.

one suspect case was added to the governorate number 22 Gharbia (Arabic: الغربية‎) which increased the suspect case count to 1,317 cases for this governorate all other statistics remained the same. the suspect case was added on the 27th of July

one other suspect case was added to the governorate number 18 Qalyubia Governorate (Arabic: القليوبية‎)

which increased the suspect case count to 489 cases for this governorate

Avian influenza - situation in Egypt - update 35
29 July 2010 -- The Ministry of Health of Egypt has announced a new human case of A(H5N1) avian influenza infection.

The case is a 20 year-old female from Shobra Elkhima district, Qliubia Governorate. She was admitted to hospital on 21 July, placed on a ventilator, and received oseltamivir treatment. She died on 27 July.

Investigations into the source of infection indicated that the case had exposure to sick and dead poultry.

The case was confirmed by the Egyptian Central Public Health Laboratories, a National Influenza Center of the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance Network (GISN).

Of the 110 laboratory confirmed cases of Avian influenza A(H5N1) reported in Egypt, 35 have been fatal.
