42 fresh cases of dengue in Delhi, total 627

New Delhi, Nov 10 (PTI) Over 1,300 people, including contractors of three Commonwealth Games projects, were challaned by MCD after it detected mosquito breeding on their premises even as 42 fresh cases of dengue were reported from the city today.

The total number of dengue cases has touched 627 with the reporting of the 42 fresh cases, an MCD official said.

According to the official, a total of 1,335 people were challaned after mosquito breeding was detected on their premises during a special drive since yesterday.

Those challaned include contractors of three Commonwealth Games projects, the official said.

"We have challaned contractors of projects at Khanna Stadium, Khel Gaon and Commonwealth Games Village after breeding of mosquito was detected," the official said.

Delhi has seen a surge in the number of dengue cases over the last fortnight when 20 to 23 cases per day on an average were registered.

38 fresh cases of dengue in Delhi, total crosses 700

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) With 38 more people testing positive for dengue today, the total number of those suffering from the vector-borne disease in the national capital this season climbed to 710.

The civic authorities said they have intensified the drive to check breeding of mosquitoes and challaned more than 6,500 people so far.

"With 38 new cases of dengue, the total number has reached 710. There are 11 cases in which the infection has been contracted from outside the city," Municipal Health Officer, MCD, N K Yadav told PTI.

The capital has seen two dengue deaths so far. The city had reported 45 cases yesterday -- the highest single-day incidence of dengue this season -- and 42 cases on Tuesday.

Yadav said areas like Masjid Moth, Sangam Vihar and Gautam Nagar have seen most number of dengue cases.

NEW DELHI: Delhi on Saturday recorded 34 new cases of dengue, taking the total number of cases due to the vector-borne disease to 783, health
officials said.

"In the past 24 hours, we have recorded 34 new cases of dengue in Delhi," said N.K. Yadav, chief medical officer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Contradicting the media reports of two fresh dengue deaths, Yadav said: "We have not recorded the two deaths that are being reported by the media because one of them was from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh and the other death was not of a confirmed dengue patient."

Until now, there have been two dengue deaths reported by the MCD - one of a nine-year old boy and the other one of a 15-year-old boy.

However, with the temperatures dipping, it is expected that cases of dengue will fall.

Debashish Bhattacharya, the nodal officer for dengue cases, said: "As the temperatures fall to around 15 degrees Celsius, the mosquitoes causing dengue will stop breeding. This will help in controlling the situation even further."

13-year-old succumbs to dengue

VADODARA: A 13-year-old girl, who tested positive for dengue, succumbed on Saturday. Sheena Solanki was admitted in SSG Hospital on Friday after
being referred from a private hospital in the city. There was no improvement in her condition and she died at 1.55 am.

Sheena's father Dilip works with Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) in the engineering department in ward number three. The family resides at Sangam char rasta. Sheena had symptoms since November 7 and her parents had taken her to various private clinics before bringing her to SSG.

As per VMC's health officials, Sheena was taken to private hospital but owing to financial constraints shifted to SSG. Her samples were collected at government hospital. As per medical reports by the private hospital, Sheena's tests confirmed that she was suffering from dengue. She was cremated at Khaswadi crematorium on Saturday afternoon.

Teenaged boy dies due to dengue (Uttar Pradesh)

Lucknow, Nov 17 (PTI) A teenaged boy died due to dengue at Chhatrapati Shahuji Medical Univeristy here, health department sources said today.

19-year-old Ankit, a resident of Sneh Nagar locality of Alambagh, was suffering from high fever for the last one week. He died at the hospital last evening, they said.

This is the fourth death due to dengue in the city, they said.

30 fresh cases of dengue in Delhi, total 913

New Delhi, Nov 18 (PTI) With 30 fresh cases of dengue, the total number of patients suffering from the vector-borne disease in the national capital shot up to 913 today.

The city has reported nearly 300 cases of dengue in the last eight days.

"With 30 fresh positive cases of dengue, the total has reached 913. There are 13 cases in which the infection has been contracted from outside Delhi," MCD's Municipal Health Officer N K Yadav told PTI.

According to MCD, the city has reported two dengue deaths so far. On October 23, a 15-year-old boy succumbed to the disease at AIIMS while a nine-year-old boy breathed his last at the LNJP hospital on October 26.

Last year, 1,070 dengue cases and two deaths were reported in the city.

Dengue cases cross 1000-mark in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 23 (PTI) Dengue cases crossed the 1000-mark in the national capital with ten fresh cases of the vector-borne disease being reported today even as authorities said they expect a downward trend over the next few days.

"The total number of dengue cases has reached 1,009 with ten more patients testing positive in the last 24 hours," Municipal Health Officer (MCD) N K Yadav told PTI.

There are 13 cases in which the infection has been contracted from outside Delhi.

The city has reported nearly 380 cases of dengue in the past 12 days but health officials hope that as the mercury was dipping, the spread of the disease could be contained over the next few days.

Delhiites experienced yet another cold day today with the mercury dipping to 9.6 degrees Celsius.

One more dengue death takes Delhi toll to 3

NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old man has died of dengue in the capital, taking the toll due to the mosquito borne disease to three in the city, the health department said on Wednesday.

"Nishipal, a resident of Karawal Nagar in east Delhi, was admitted to St. Stephen's Hospital on Nov 21 and was diagnosed to be suffering from dengue. He died Nov 30. His death due to dengue was confirmed today (Wednesday). With this the official toll in Delhi is three," Debashish Bhattacharya, state nodal officer for dengue cases, told IANS.

With 12 new dengue cases reported on Wednesday, the tally of those affected by the disease crossed the 1,100 mark.

"There were 12 new cases reported on Wednesday. The cumulative total number of cases is 1,106 now," the official added.

Two people have died of dengue in Delhi earlier -- a 15-year-old boy and a nine-year-old boy.

With the onset of winter, the health department is hoping that the number of dengue cases would drop since the breeding of the carrier mosquito cannot occur below 15 degrees Celsius.

Last year the national capital reported two dengue deaths and a total of 1,312 cases.

A 12-year-old girl succumbed to Dengue at a private hospital here today.

Arya Anand Sanglikar, a class eight student, hailing from Tarabai Road area, was admitted to the hospital a couple of days back due to high fever, but her condition deteriorated rapidly and she died, hospital sources said.

266 dengue, 326 chikungunya cases reported in State, says Sriramulu

BANGALORE: As many as 266 cases of dengue and 326 cases of chikungunya have been reported in the State till June 28, according to Health Minister B. Sriramulu.

?However, no deaths have been reported due to these diseases?, Mr. Sriramulu told the Legislative Council on Wednesday in his reply to the issue raised by Janata Dal (Secular) member Abdul Azeem during Zero Hour.

Bangalore alone accounted for 93 confirmed cases of dengue and 41 confirmed cases of chikungunya, he noted.

Beware! Killer dengue is back

Dengue menace is assuming dangerous dimensions in the city. On Thursday, Umavathi, 30, who was admitted with bleeding and fever on July 20 at Gayathri Hospital in Vijaynagar, succumbed to the fever. Her blood platelet count dropped soon after she was admitted.

Dr Sunil Mallesh, managing director, Gayathri Hospital, said it's the second death at the hospital. "We treated at least 100 dengue patients this year. The main issue is platelets -- most patients have a very low platelet count," he said.

Medical superintendent, Victoria Hospital, Dr B G Tilak, said, "The number of dengue patients are also high."

7-year-old dies of dengue after returning from Bihar

The city reported its first dengue death on Friday with a seven-year-old child from Bihar succumbing to the disease at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Shaqir, the victim, was a resident of Okhla. Municipal health officer N K Yadav claimed that he contracted dengue from outside the city while on a holiday in his hometown, Bihar. Yadav said instances of mosquitoes breeding across the city have increased after the recent rain. Mosquitoes are breeding in major construction sites, including the Games village, Indira Gandhi stadium, R K Khanna Tennis stadium, GB Pant Hospital and the MTNL exchange in Hauz Khas. Twenty-six cases of dengue have been reported in the city till date.

"The child died on Thursday. He had contracted the disease in Bihar where he had gone to spend his holiday with the family. This is the first death due to dengue," Yadav said.

According to official data, 11 dengue cases have been reported from MCD areas, six from New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) areas and another six from outside the state. "The addresses of the remaining three are yet to be ascertained," said an MCD official.

'Dengue? death sparks off protests


Bengaluru, July 23: The death of a 15-year-old sparked off protests in Mavallipura on Friday, with villagers claiming he had died of dengue, that was spreading fast in the area because of the garbage dumped by BBMP for processing at Ramky Infrastructure Ltd.

The villagers staged a protest parading the boy, Akshay Kumar?s body, at the company gates, demanding an end to their troubles, which they claimed began after Ramky was given the job of treating the solid waste generated by the city.

The boy?s parents said the Tirumala Hospital in Kamakshipalya had certified his death as caused by dengue.

?The people of all eight villages, including Mavallipura, that are situated within half-a-km radius of the unit are suffering. The villages are filled with mosquitoes and flies and the department of mines and geology has confirmed their groundwater is contaminated,? said Srinivas, a resident.

The villagers complained that their pleas to the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and BBMP to shift Ramky?s operations elsewhere had been ignored. ?BBMP has not even bothered to fog the villages or take any other precautions against the spread of mosquito-borne diseases,? they said.

Two more dengue cases in city; count reaches 28

The national Capital reported two fresh cases of Dengue on Saturday. With this, the total number of people afflicted with the vector-borne disease shot up to 28. The younger brother of Fakir (the seven-year-old who became the first case of dengue death in the Capital when he succumbed to the disease on Thursday), is one of the two new positive cases in the city.

Residents of Okhla Mandi, the brothers had shown dengue-like symptoms since returning from their hometown in Bihar, last week.

They were admitted into the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Tuesday evening after their condition deteriorated.

While the elder one died on Thursday, and his confirmatory laboratory report came on Friday morning, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) received the confirmatory lab report of the younger one on Saturday morning.

Worst dengue threat in 4 yrs

Delhi is grappling with the biggest dengue outbreak since 2006. There have been 30 cases of dengue this year till July 26, according to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) data, against only two cases till the same time last year. A survey of six private hospitals in the city indicated the number could be higher.

“MCD does not accept a case as dengue until it gets a positive dengue serology report,” said Dr K.K. Aggarwal, chief physician at Moolchand Hospital. “People test positive only five days after the onset of fever, so many cases are missed.”

Six new dengue cases in Delhi

New Delhi: Six new dengue cases were reported in the city today, taking the number of people affected by the water borne disease to 41.

"Six fresh cases of dengue were reported in the city today. With this, the total number of people who tested positive for dengue till now is 41," Dr NK Yadav, medical health officer, MCD said.

The MCD has roped in extra staff to carry out fogging in the Commonwealth Games village in order keep it free of mosquitos.

Yadav said, "We also held a meeting with 33 sentinel survillence hospitals and advised them to check mosquito breeding in their premises.

Girl dies of suspected dengue, kin cries foul

BANGALORE: Shilpa, 12, died of suspected dengue on Wednesday at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health. A resident of Mangammanapalya, Shilpa was admitted to a private clinic in Bommanahalli on July 22.

Suspecting it to be a dengue case, doctors in Prashanth Hospital immediately referred her to Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health. Dr Patil N D, general practitioner with Prashanth Hospital, said, "Shilpa was admitted on July 22. On the first day, she suffered fever, headache and body ache. However, on the second day, her platelet count dropped from 1,18,000 to 21,000."

"Though the patient tested negative, suspecting it to be a dengue case, we referred her to Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health. The patient was from a very poor background and the family didn't have enough money to go to a blood bank. We had to convince the parents to take her to Indira Gandhi Institute," Dr Patil said.

Shilpa's father N Keshava said his daughter was suffering from high fever. "First, we took her to a clinic in Mangammanapalya. After a blood test, the doctor said Shilpa was suffering from dengue and asked us to admit her in a nearby hospital."

He added: "When we took her to the hospital, she started bleeding while being scanned. Her blood was black in colour. Doctors said the platelets would be very expensive and referred us to Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, but did not give us the detailed report."

Woman dies of dengue

Even as Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials continue to deny dengue deaths in the city, hospitals are reporting deaths caused by the vector-borne disease.

On Saturday, a 37-year-old woman from Viveknagar died of dengue in St. Philomena's Hospital. Confirming the death, a spokesperson for the hospital said the victim, Vijaya Rani, was admitted to the hospital two days ago after she developed complications.

Meanwhile, another A(H1N1) death was reported in the hospital on Saturday, the spokesperson added.

Orissa Village Put on High Alert Over Dengue Fever Threat

The tribal dominated Balisahi village of Orissa has been put on high alert since a Dengue case was detected here last week.

Twenty two-year-old Pramila Lima, who is four months pregnant, complained of high fever, shivering and acute pain in the limbs. On being taking to the nearby Behrampur hospital, she was found to be suffering from Malaria.

She was later tested positive with Dengue following lateral tests. The doctors in the district hospital say that the villagers have been alerted and their blood samples have been collected.

"When our staff came to know about that a case of Dengue has been detected in our block, we immediately came here along with our staff, ANM (auxiliary nurse mid-wife), health worker male, Laboratory division and AYUSH doctors.

We came to the village and conducted a health check-up camp. We have taken the blood samples of all the people here on a slide, and the slides have been sent to the district health headquarters," said Jagdish Panigrahi, a doctor from the district hospital.

Chikungunya, dengue cases on the rise in State

Bangalore: Two vector-borne diseases, chikungunya and dengue, have become widespread in the State with patients being admitted to hospitals in district and taluk headquarters, apart from Bangalore.

Officials in the Department of Health told The Hindu that many have been affected in the past few days. The official count of those affected by chikungunya in the State touched 4,254 by July-end and officials conceded that the figure could be much higher. As many as 857 persons have been affected by dengue.

The sources said the number of such people was, however, lower than what it was during the corresponding period in the previous years. As many as 7.62 lakh people were affected by chikungunya in 2006, 1,705 in 2007, 46,510 in 2008 and 41,649 in 2009.

Chikungunya has been rampant in urban localities, and along with dengue and malaria spreads largely during the monsoon.

Now, the role of Minister for Health B. Sriramulu has come into question. A section of the Ministers in the Yeddyurappa Cabinet are up against the Health Minister and have called upon the Chief Minister to drop him from the Cabinet.
