Rachelle Siefken was at home in the Riverside County town of Aguanga with her 4-year-old daughter and 16-month-old son when the shaking started. It was the first earthquake experience for both children, and her son was scared, she said, although the temblor did no damage to her house.

"I grabbed him up in my arms and I stood in the doorway with him," said Siefken, who teaches English online for the California Virtual Academy.

The earthquake took place between the Los Angeles area and the Salton Sea, believed to have been the source of a strong rotten egg odor this past fall.
Also on March 5th, there was a similar odor generated off the coast of Los Angeles thought to be generated by a tectonic plate movement.

?There?s always that slight chance ? slight chance now - that this could be the foreshock of something larger. Probably not. Usually this is just an event all by itself,? Abbot said.

?It doesn?t hurt to keep it in mind, in the next 72 hours in particular," he said. "If a larger one is going to occur it would probably be during that three-day period...?

California earthquake: Aftershocks continue for second day

A magnitude-4.7 earthquake in Riverside County continued to produce aftershocks for a second day.

There were more than a dozen small aftershocks Tuesday morning, after more than 150 on Monday. All were small and probably not felt by residents in the Anza area.

Monday morning's quake, centered near Anza, caused no major damage, but it was felt over what seismologists said was an unusually large area.

The quake was initially recorded as three separate quakes because a foreshock tricked seismographs into recording multiple quakes of multiple sizes, said Susan Hough, a USGS seismologist....
