89% of people suffering from tuberculosis in Peru fail to heal
Lima, September. 14 (ANDINA). 89 percent of people suffering from tuberculosis (TB) in Peru fail to cure this evil, a very important result for the other countries of the Andean region, said the Ministry of Health (MoH).
Index recovered TB patients in Peru is higher than other countries in the Andean region.
Carlos Acosta Saal, director general of Health of People in this sector, said that the rate of TB patients that fail to heal in neighboring countries reaches 85 percent.
"In all types of TB is very important that the patient complete their treatment," the official said specifying that cough for 15 days or more may be an indicator that someone has the disease.
He recommended going to a health facility to be submitted to the diagnosis of TB free when you notice symptoms of the disease, whose treatment is also provided at no cost.
While highlighting the percentage of Peruvian patients who are cured of that bad, Acosta expressed his concern for those who stop or pass a more severe form of the disease, tough call
He said that resistant TB patients receive special care from the MoH, State entity that takes care expenses throughout the duration of the treatment.
He explained that a treatment for a patient with TB takes six months, while those who managed to pass the resistant or highly resistant forms, lasting two years.
The specialist said that TB patients may feel Unnerved by the disease and suffer social exclusion, however, argued that these situations should not occur because the treatment ensures that the patient is no longer contagious.
"People receiving treatment for tuberculosis can go quietly to perform in social, occupational and family-safe", he added, referring to 32 000 Peruvians are currently suffering from this disease.
