Russia found near the borders hotbed of avian influenza

In northern Japan, near Russia's Kuril, registration is officially confirmed outbreak of avian influenza. Just know that swans on the island of Hokkaido died from the virus strain H5N1.
The authorities of the northern Japanese island officially confirmed that the cause of death swan found dead April 24, became world-famous dangerous strain of avian influenza. Sanitary Service began checking the five poultry farms, which are located 30 km from the place where the swan found.
But disturbing reports are not limited to this case.
We learned also that on the lake Tovada four swan died of bird flu that is, RIA Novosti.
Note that the island of Hokkaido, where the dead swans found, next to the Russian Kuril Islands and Sakhalin Island.

I suspect this story just shows that H5N1 was NOT detected in Sakhalin.

Please take note that a big fight is going on between Russia and Japan over these islands.
On top of this a couple of weeks ago, Gasprom has decided to prompt or to push Japan request.
Might not be related but in the sequences of negociations, I am in the wait and see mode.

How would this relate to detection of H5N1? The headline indicates that testing was done (and was negative).

Henry, I have seens the modus operandi of Russia in that region against Shell. Shell invest huge amount of money and once gas was found, Russia decrete that Shell did not respect environment retrospective laws,
So as for their proganda tools, I would not be surprised that they use this as a toll to rise fears, specialy, remember, few weeks ago the H5N1 outbreak in Japan and the subsequent media rhetoric used by Nihon MSM.
I am not sure of course, but I would certainly not be surprise that they are playing Mind and Cultural games here to get to their ends.

The story seems a bit fuzzy, because there does seem to be a cull, but its not clear if this was part of a surveillance program or if the culled birds had some symptoms (and of course if they were H5N1 positive, that would be breaking news).

The Kuril Islands are stepping stones to Kamchatka, then the Aleutians. See post from 2006 about earlier cases of H5N1 in this area. I've often wondered if was H5N1 in Kamchatka in 2006.
