Swine flu claims 16th Scots death
The 59-year-old woman had underlying health problems
A 59-year-old woman from Fife who had been suffering from swine flu has died.
The patient who is the 16th person to die from the H1N1 virus in Scotland was reported to have had significant underlying health conditions.
A vaccination programme targeted at specified vulnerable people will be launched on Wednesday.
Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said she was deeply saddened to hear of the death and her thoughts were with the patient's family and friends.
Ms Sturgeon added: "In the vast majority of H1N1 cases most people have fairly mild symptoms, but if you are at greater risk I urge you to take up the vaccine when invited to do so by your GP.
"The first phase of the vaccine programme will launch tomorrow and we are confident those in the priority groups will be vaccinated by Christmas.
"Anyone who is concerned about flu-like symptoms should continue to contact their GP for advice, or NHS 24 on 084...."
