WOODSTOCK -- A trust account has been opened for the Eastwood couple, stranded in Mexico after one of them contracted pandemic H1N1 and developed pneumonia.

As of last Monday, hospital bills have reached over $300,000, of which their insurance company is paying 85%.

The rest will be the responsibility Su Lyttle, 59, and Lynda (Belinda) Young, 50, and friends have set up the trust account for donations to help the troubled family....

Now Young is clinging to life and in an induced coma after contracting pneumonia, a complication of Influenza A (H1N1).

Young was only in Mexico a day when she began coughing violently. She eventually ended up in hospital and was put on a ventilator.

I can add that the local hospital put the family up in one of the nicest hotels in town for only the cleaning cost of the room.:tiphat:

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico -- A local woman hospitalized in Mexico with H1N1 may soon be coming home.

Su Lyttle said Monday her partner Lynda Young has significantly improved and may be returning to Canada for medical treatment by the end of the week.

Her family was told just weeks ago that she had only a 25% chance of survival.

"On Sunday the doctor said Lynda is significantly better and if she maintains this positive progress we are looking at air ambulance for her for Wednesday or Thursday," Lyttle said. "Well, we are all ecstatic -- we can't believe this -- it's a real turnaround."
Although her kidneys are still failing, Young is requiring less oxygen on the ventilator and she has been without a fever for a couple of days.

"I have gone from a dark place of despair, thinking I was losing my partner forever to a place of reserved happiness and joy," Lyttle said. "I am afraid to be over the moon because the emotions are so raw after the roller coaster ride so far and in case further complications occur, but this is definitely the best news we have ever had."

Lyttle, 59, and Young, 50, left their Eastwood home on Christmas Eve for Riu Jallisco, a resort in Puerto Vallarta, hoping for a week of rest and relaxation.

One day after arriving in Mexico, Young spiked a fever, developed a severe cough and developed pneumonia.

Eventually she was hospitalized and doctors induced Young into a coma to calm her violent cough.

Hospital bills have reached $345,000 with Lyttle's insurance company paying only 85 per cent of the tab.

The balance will be the couple's responsibility, and friends have set up a trust account for donations to the troubled family.

Air ambulance to Canada is also expected to be a fairly significant expense.

A Facebook page, located at "Lynda's Medical Support in Mexico," has been established to provide updates to friends and family.

People wishing to make a donation to Lynda's Young's trust fund can do so through any branch of the TD Canada Trust into account # 6318478.

Lynda Young, an Eastwood woman who has been on a ventilator in Mexico for more than 20 days is expected to arrive at a London Hospital this evening by air ambulance.

Young was put into a coma and put on a ventilator to calm a violent cough caused by H1N1. She continues to be in a coma and on a ventilator to help her breathe, but Mexican doctors felt she was stable enough to be transported home to Canada.

The 50-year-old and her partner Su Lyttle, 59, left their home on Christmas Eve for Riu Jallisco, a resort in Puerto Vallarta for a week's vacation. Soon after Young spiked a fever and developed a severe cough eventually developing pneumonia.
Young has been surrounded by her three youngest daughters and her partner at a Mexican Hospital.

Young and Lyttle are expected to arrive by air ambulance between 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The rest of the family will arrive in Toronto shortly after 9 p.m.

Medical bills have been mounting for the family. When Sun Media last spoke to family members bills had surmounted $345,000.

Lyttle's insurance is only covering 85 per cent of the cost. Several fundraisers are underway in both the Woodstock and Kitchener areas to help the family.

A Woodstock woman who became critically ill while vacationing in Mexico over the holidays has returned to Canada.

Lynda Young was travelling with her partner in Puerto Vallarta when she fell ill with the flu.

Doctors induced a coma after the 50-year-old's condition worsened in hospital.

Young was airlifted to Canada early yesterday morning after her condition stabilized.

She is now at a London Hospital.

Her family says doctors are hoping to slowly bring her out of her coma over the next few days.
