Pig Plague: Outbreak of epidemic places Armenia?s Tavush province under quarantine

The outbreak of African plague epidemic in some villages of Tavush province, north Armenia, killed 44 pigs and led to forced slaughter of 302 pigs.
Grisha Baghyan, Head of the State Veterinary and Food Safety Inspection at the Ministry of Agriculture says laboratory examination has revealed pathogens.
?This means that the virus exists and it is being spread,? Baghyan warns.
The African plague is widely spread especially in Koghb and Noyemberyan villages, and some cases are registered in Artchis, Ltchadzor, and Bagratashen villages. Measures are taken to quarantine the highways running from Noyemberyan to Ijevan and Lori province. Plague cases are also registered in some parts of forests in Dsegh village, Lori province.
Baghyan says that export of any kind of meat products, as well as transfer of fodder is banned from five villages of Tavush province. Transfer of pork and pork products is banned from other eight villages of the province.
African plague does not communicate to other animals or people, but, to be on the safe side, specialists recommend avoiding eating pork of infected pigs: an infected animal meat has darker color.
At present African plague is incurable. There is no remedy for it, not even a vaccine...
