LBJ reporting deaths from recent dengue fever cases

LBJ Medical Center has four confirmed cases of dengue fever and patients in two of these cases have died. LBJ, Infection Prevention Officer Charmaine Mageo told Samoa News a suspected but unconfirmed case has also resulted in the death of a teenager over the weekend.
The first two cases were admitted into the Intensive Care Unit and within several days they both passed away. Tests sent off island came back positive as dengue, however more tests are being conducted to determine what type of dengue the territory is experiencing.

The death toll from dengue fever in American Samoa is now three with confirmation that the death last week of a woman in her early 20's was due to the mosquito borne virus.
A fourth suspected case is being investigated by doctors at the LBJ Hospital.
In May a ten month old baby and a 23 year old man died from dengue.

Two people who were admitted to the hospital with symptoms of dengue fever died yesterday but the exact cause of death will not be known until lab tests completed.
Family members of a woman who was employed at the Department of Health Maternal and Child Care program and an 11 month old baby boy say however that the two had dengue fever.
The woman was from Leone and the infant was from Amouli.
Also last Thursday morning a man from Leone died from suspected dengue hemorrhagic.
A 23-year-old woman who also worked in the Maternal and Child Health Division died last week from dengue fever according to the woman?s sister.
The LBJ hospital has dismissed reports by 93KHJ radio that the two deaths over the weekend ? a woman and an infant ? were suspected cases of dengue fever, according to Assistant Medical Director, Dr. Annie Fuavai. She was responding to Samoa News queries following numerous calls and emails to Samoa News about posts on Facebook that the two recent deaths are suspected victims of dengue fever.

The updated report compiled by the Department of Health (DOH) on the dengue fever outbreak shows an increase in cases in the territory. The latest report, which is for the week ending August 2, 2015 has an increase of 54 suspected cases within the span of eight days. According to the email sent out by DOH, this report is their ?friendly message? from Epidemiologist Scott Anesi with the approval of DOH Director Motusa Nua.

According to the report, the weekly update for dengue for the week ending Aug 2, 2015 is 238 suspected cases, 75 hospitalizations and four confirmed deaths. There is also an increase of 14 people who were admitted within the span of the eight days into the hospital for treatment and other observation.
