Fever grips Kothamajeru village, one dead

A retired postmaster M. Sitaramaiah, resident of Kothamajeru village of Challapalli mandal in Krishna died while undergoing treatment for fever at a private hospital in the city on Sunday. For the last several days, many residents in the village have been complaining of fever and on Sunday when a private hospital conducted a health camp 23 persons were reported to be suffering with fever.

Following this, the district medical and health office also conducted a health camp in the village. Many residents are complaining of body pains and fever and going by the symptoms, it could be viral fever, said DMHO N. Nagamalleswari.

It is mainly due to water contamination in the village river.

One person died in Vijayawada Hospital, while over 400 persons are suffering from viral fever, at Majedu village in Krishna district. At least one person in every house in the village is suffering from this fever. The doctors are treating it like normal fever and no leader or official has reacted to the situation, the victims said. The fever may be caused due to consuming contaminated water, they suspected.

Negligence of contamination report leads to viral fevers

Condition of five persons remains critical

The health condition of at least five persons is said be critical, while nearly 250 persons are down with viral fever at Kotha Majeru of Challapalli mandal in Krishna district.

The five persons are being treated at government hospitals at Machilipatnam and Vijayawada. The Vijayawada-based AP Water Quality Monitor Laboratory (WQML) had found the presence of unusual pathogenic bacteria in the ground water source, from which samples were tested in the laboratory.

?Consumption of water drawn from local bore wells and open wells, which are located on the banks of the open drainage is the prime reason for the spread of viral fevers,? Dr. G. Jagannadhra Rao told The Hindu . Mr. Rao is one of the senior doctors attending the medical camp here. As many as seven drinking water sources, including open wells, were temporarily closed by officials on Monday, apart from treating the stagnated and untreated drainage water in the village.

Viral fever deaths: Jagan says govt. is to blame

Opposition Leader and YSRC chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday threatened an agitation, condemning the ?government?s poor response? to tackling the spread of viral fevers at Kohta Majeru in Krishna district, if Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu did not visit the village within a week.

He said as many as 18 deaths due to viral fever had been reported in the village since June. He also inspected the drinking water pond and consoled the bereaved families.

?Neither Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu nor Health Minister K. Srinivasa Rao has bothered to even pay a visit to the village till date,? he alleged.

Villagers hospitalised after outbreak of viral fever, typhoid

More than 250 villagers including children have been admitted to various hospitals in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh after an outbreak of viral fever and other related infections, a district health officer said here today.

Krishna District Medical Officer R Nagamalleswari told PTI that water contamination, poor sanitation and climate changes seem to have caused the outbreak.

The health official said that at least 250 people have been admitted to various hospitals in the district, while nearly 70 people were found to be suffering from typhoid.

Govt. ignored viral fever deaths, says Jagan

Opposition Leader and YSRC chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday accused the State government of failure to prevent the spread of viral fevers at Kotha Majeru, where at least 18 people had died since June.

Along with thousands of his supporters, Mr. Reddy staged a dharna in front of the District Collectorate, demanding that the government pay ex gratia to the families of those who died reportedly from viral fever in the village.
