Windhoek : A suspected anthrax outbreak has killed 107 hippos in one of Namibia's biggest game parks in just one week, The park's Deputy Director Apollinaris Kannyinga on Sunday confirmed the deaths at Bwabwata National Park n the Zambezi region, Xinhua reported.

Kannyinga said the first 10 deaths were reported on October 1 but had risen by the end of the week. "We suspect an anthrax outbreak, but our veterinary is still yet to confirm that," he said...

WINDHOEK, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Namibia confirmed Wednesday it is anthrax that killed the 120 hippopotami and 25 buffalo that died since last week.

The animals started dying on Oct. 1 in the Bwabwata National Park northeast of the country. By Oct. 10, 120 hippopotami and 25 buffalo had died.

The Ministry of Environment and Tourism, in a statement, assured tourists that there is no health hazard to people as a result of the situation...

The mass deaths were confirmed by government officials on October 7th 2017 by flying over the Kavango River with a helicopter. The Central Veterinary Laboratory confirmed the event by microscopic examination of Bacillus anthracis on October 11th 2017. A number of communities and their livestock live in proximity to the game reserve. However, neither human cases nor livestock cases were reported so far. Namibia confirms last year's anthrax outbreak contained

WINDHOEK, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's Environment Ministry confirmed Monday that the anthrax outbreak in the west part of Bwabwata National Park in the Kavango East Region has been contained.

The anthrax outbreak in the country which was detected last year in October in one of the country's biggest game parks killed around 120 hippopotamuses and 25 buffaloes, amongst others.

The Environment Ministry, Public Relations officer, Romeo Muyunda in a statement said the Anthrax Containment Team which included the environment, health and agriculture ministries had contained the situation...
