The Director of Epidemiology of the Province, Patricia Steren, reported that there were two fatal cases of Influenza A, one in the private sphere, and another in the public sphere, being indigenous. Also revealed that there are 29 people detained. In the framework of the cabinet meeting conducted by the Ministry of Health on a weekly basis, the Directorate General of Epidemiology gave a report referred to the cases of respiratory diseases in the Province.
Steren argued that the Government of Jujuy, through the Ministry of Health, Since 2009 develops work on epidemiological surveillance of respiratory diseases, including influenza, pneumonia and bronchiolitis, and stated that in comparison with previous years, 2013 is the period where there was a lower number of notifications by respiratory diseases. She clarified that to date there is no outbreak, but there are viral circulation since there are strains of influenza B, A, and within this last H1N1, in addition to other virus corresponding to bronchiolitis.
Steren explained that the type of respiratory diseases typically rise in the cold weather, Since the virus can stay longer in the air by the low temperatures, although clarified that are diseases that are prevalent 365 days a year, increasing the number of notifications in winter time with marked seasonality.
