Cattle tick fever outbreak in NSW leaves two cows dead and seven properties quarantined

Two cows are dead from cattle tick fever on a beef cattle property near Kempsey in northern New South Wales.
A third cow is missing from the 30-head herd and is assumed to have also died from the disease, which is transmitted by cattle ticks.
A yearling bull displaying symptoms of tick fever has now been treated and is showing signs of recovery.
The NSW Department of Primary Industries describes cattle ticks as the most serious external parasite of cattle in Australia. The ticks can spread the potentially fatal tick fever and are found in parts of Queensland. While outbreaks occur in the sub-tropical north-east corner of NSW, ticks are very rarely found further south...
