A BAT disease warning has been issued for Katherine.
The Centre for Disease Control (CDC) has warned Territorians to stay away from the animals as they may carry Australian Bat Lyssavirus, a potentially fatal disease related to rabies.
Two people have died from the disease since it was identified in 1996, the CDC said.
Katherine, about 300km south of Darwin, has been inundated with up to three hundred thousand bats.
