First 30 patients with New Influenza A (H1N1) in the Netherlands

In the Netherlands are currently 43 confirmed infections with New Influenza A (H1N1).

Background details are currently known from the first 30 patients (see below).

This includes 23 patients with the virus have been abroad (including 16 in the
U.S. and 3 in Mexico) and 7 contacts in the Netherlands have become infected. Most of the 30
patients (63%) were women and the main age group was 25-29 years. Analysis by
ECDC of 409 cases from 21 European countries, an almost equal number of men and
women with most patients in the age group 20-29 years

Of the first 642 patients in the U.S. had 25% suffer from diarrhea and vomiting in addition to 25% of the
usual symptoms of influenza (New England Journal of Medicine, June 18, 2009).
The Dutch patients were gastrointestinal complaints on the ground.

Follow-up information after 5 days is limited to the Dutch patients with first day of illness
for June 7, 2009, this involved 21 cases and 2 symptomatic contacts. 2 cases are
(yet) follow-up data available.

Twenty 20 of the 21 patients are now the better hand or restored. For
a patient with whom it initially seemed to go well, the health
deteriorated when the results showed positive (lots of coughing, poor sleep). Meanwhile, the fever
have disappeared. For none of these patients reported complications. In 1 patient
because of severe complaints recording or considered.

The patients (both cases and contacts) are generally more healthy people
without underlying conditions
(2 patients with asthma and 1 patient with high blood pressure,
impaired renal function and slow-acting thyroid gland). None of the patients was pregnant.

The disease was described from very ill to very few complaints. For the
people with the better hand, but not yet fully recovered, were
sequelae such as anxiety, cough and fatigue were reported.

where in Mexico,USA ?
~10-15 different strains around, most data available from the New York virus.

Or show some sequences, just one or 2 segments (I recommend 4,5 or 5,6) or testing for special
mutations should be enough in most cases.

NL/602 looks like the original (Oaxaca?-virus) or the Northern virus
