COVID-19 UPDATE

Given the increasing number of samples that require processing, another set was tested today.

That has allowed us to identify a further 3 cases, they are all minors and are members of a family who had been illegally across the border. The 3 new cases are in Orange Walk bringing their total to 7.

We had one case recovered so we have a total of 11 active cases.
While we acknowledge a general concern with the airport’s opening in August, we at health remain very much concerned with the ongoing illegals crossings at the Northern, Western and Southern entry points.
All border communities are therefore being asked to remain extra vigilant and to report any suspicious case as we are now anticipating clusters in these communities at the rate we are going.

COVID-19 UPDATE
Our enhanced surveillance and now routine laboratory testing for SARS-CoV2 has identified another 4 cases as positive for SARS-CoV2.
These 4 cases are related to the previously identified 3 cases yesterday and all 7 members of this family remain at the quarantine center in Orange Walk. One person displayed minor signs and symptoms and was seen at the hospital yesterday but has not warranted in hospital treatment.
All 7 cases were identified as persons who had been crossing the border into Mexico illegally and the contact tracing/mapping exercise for all these cases is currently ongoing.
Today's initial exercise has identified further potential cases in the community of Blue Creek and that exercise will continue into this weekend given the identification of this particular cluster.
This identification of cases in persons who have been crossing the border illegally, underscores the importance and relevance of 'ALL OF COMMUNITY' approach in any successful COVID-19 intervention.
We therefore have a total of 37 cases with 15 active cases, 9 of them being in Orange Walk.
Please, we all need to continue to remain safe, avoid crowded area, practice social distancing, wear a mask and report any illegal crossings that you know.
We will be providing updates throughout the weekend via this medium and other OFFICIAL media outlets.

A further 88 samples were processed today, some of these included the initial set of samples picked up from contact tracing and the mapping exercise done over the weekend linked to the last 7 cases. These samples have returned negative, however, the further mapping of these cases is ongoing.

We however have identified two other cases as reactive for SARS-CoV2:

- A case in a returning male on the repatriation flight that arrived on Friday, July 10th. He is under quarantine at a hotel and is asymptomatic.

- A second case in a male in his 50's who was seen as a patient at the San Ignacio Community Hospital over the weekend with gastrointestinal symptoms and a loss of sense of taste. The patient was discharged to self-isolate home. The patient has improved clinically and remains in isolation at home. The contact tracing for this last case is currently ongoing.

We have recovered a case so we have a total of 16 active cases.

This is our data for today.
A further set of 119 samples (second highest number for a day) were done today including the samples from contact tracing done in Blue Creek, all of these are negative.
We do have another positive case, this is in a person that came in through the repatriation process. She is an elderly female with underlying heart conditions who is in home quarantine due to her condition. The person is asymptomatic and remains under home quarantine.
All other samples were negative.
We also have another recovered case.

COVID-19 UPDATE

For the second time in a week, we have to report a record number of identified positive cases for one single day.

Today, we processed a total of 121 samples, some of these are still contacts from San Pedro, the northern districts and from the enhanced surveillance that is currently ongoing countrywide.

We can confirm a total of 28 positive cases for SARS-CoV2 and the preliminary breakdown is as follows (this may change as further information is gathered):

- 1 case in San Ignacio (associated to illegal entry)
- 1 case in Belmopan (apparent travel to San Pedro)
- 3 cases in the Northern Region (2 in Santa Marta and one in Orange Walk with link pending to be established)
- 20 cases in San Pedro (2 related to cluster associated to a church and 10 related to cluster #1, the remaining 8 pending to establish a link to any cluster)
- 3 in Belize City (2 are linked to San Pedro and one to OW)

We have recovered one case for a total of 80 active cases.

This is our data for today.

We are releasing until this hour as we are trying to reach the positive cases in the first instance.

A record numbers of tests for one single day was processed today - a total of 214.

We are able to confirm 32 new cases today. The full breakdown is being worked on but for now this is the preliminary data:

- 1 case in Stann Creek related to cluster in Santa Marta
- 1 case in Cayo (repatriation)
- 3 cases in Corozal (one single cluster related to San Pedro)
- 10 cases in Shipyard (related to cluster identified earlier in the week)

The majority of the remaining cases are for now related to the two clusters in San Pedro.

We are still working on the line listing but needed to share this preliminary data for now.

Our data today reveals a further 7 new cases: 5 in Orange Walk and 2 in San Pedro.​
The 2 cases in San Pedro are linked to a construction site where the majority of workers seem to be from the Orange Walk District - contact tracing for this site is ongoing. We are seeing a possible link to one of the two other clusters previously identified on the island.​
The 5 cases in Orange Walk are as follows:
- 2 in Shipyard and linked to initial cluster which has more than 10 active cases
- 1 case in Santa Martha
- 1 case in Yo Creek (linked to San Pedro)
- 1 case in August Pine Ridge (works in Orange Walk) - contact tracing has started in order to determine possible links.​

Belize reports 154 cases and 2 deaths. Cases have more than doubled since August 4.

As highlighted yesterday, no specific set of samples were being run for today.
The extraction process and preparation of samples was started today to process a significant amount tomorrow Monday, August 10th. The total set of samples pending to be processed is close to 300 for now.
A small run of 3 samples was done today, we have one more positive in Belize City. The patient that had been hospitalized yesterday was discharged today.
Contact tracing continued through the weekend and the 3 actives clusters out of San Pedro continue to be monitored, we should be providing further details on this within 12 hours.

A total of 144 samples have been processed throughout the day.
We have a total of 23 new positive cases with a preliminary breakdown as follows:
- 3 cases in Belmopan (2 are linked to the previous identified positive case in Belmopan and the other case is linked to San Pedro)
- 2 cases in Orange Walk (1 from Santa Marta and 1 from Orange Walk Town linked to a previously identified case)
- 1 case in Caye Caulker (with no apparent link to any previously identified case for now)
- 5 cases in Belize City (1 case with no apparent link to any previously identified cases, 4 others linked to previously identified cases)
The remaining cases are in San Pedro.

This is our data for today, a total of 84 samples have been processed, the last remaining batch will be processed throughout the night.
In this batch we have a total of 33 positive cases with the breakdown as follows:
- 31 cases in San Pedro (related to the three active clusters)
- 1 case in Belize City (related to a previously identified cases in Belmopan)
- 1 case in Belmopan (related to a previously identified case in Belmopan).
We currently have two hospitalized cases.
We should note that we currently have 10 out the 176 active cases in health staff (6 from private sector / 4 in the public sector) with the majority of these cases to interaction outside of the health care setting.
