Bihar reported its first official dengue death when a 60-year-old man succumbed to the disease in a private hospital here, an official said Wednesday. Subodh Prasad Das, a resident of Begusarai, died Tuesday, Begusarai District Magistrate Jitendra Prasad Srivastava said. He added, another patient,
Anita Devi, of Begusarai has also been diagnosed with dengue. She has been battling for life at a private clinic in Patna for the past 10 days.

Five die of suspected dengue in Bihar
Five persons, including four women, died of suspected dengue in Bihar?s Munger district, official sources said on Saturday.

District Magistrate Avijit Kumar Sinha, who visited the Sadar hospital where two persons died last night and two others on Saturday, directed the Civil Surgeon Mukesh Kumar to constitute a medical team to ascertain the cause of the deaths.

The dead were identified as Suryabala Devi, Kiran Devi, Savita Devi and Md Masood, all from Guljar Pokhar area in the town, Sinha said.

Another woman from the area also died today of similar symptoms while being rushed to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital in Bhagalpur, sources added.

Kumar said the victims were brought to the hospital with low platelete count, high fever, uneasiness and bodyache.

?We are yet to diagnose the reason but the symptoms have raised suspicion about their deaths being caused due to dengue?, he said.

The district authorities have sought the help of medical experts from Patna in this connection.

One more dies of dengue in Munger, toll reaches six

Munger (Bihar), Sep 13 (PTI) With the death of one more person here, the dengue toll in the district rose to six even as 63 people have tested positive for the disease, officials said today.

Rahul Kumar died here last night and with this the toll in the district rose to six since Saturday, they said.

"We received a report from a private hospital that about 63 patients have dengue virus," District Magistrate Abhijit Sinha said.

The arrangements for treatment of patients were being made at Sadar hospital and a cleanliness drive has been undertaken in the town and adjoining areas, he said, adding that the municipal authorities too have launched fogging operations.

Meanwhile, people staged a demonstration and ransacked a hospital here for allegedly not accepting a patient who they claimed died of dengue last night, sources said.

Two dengue deaths, 169 afffected in Bihar

Two people have died of dengue while 169 have been affected in the districts of Munger, Begusarai and Patna in Bihar till Tuesday, an official said on Wednesday. Stating this, director-in-chief, Health Service R N Pandey told PTI on Wednesday that civil surgeons across the state had been provided with anti-dengue kits and directed to open control rooms to monitor dengue cases.

Four hospitals -- Jawharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, Bhagalpur, Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Jayaprabha hospital, Patna and Mahavir Cancer Seva Sansthan in Patna had been directed to store adequate stock of platelets, he said.
