Pronunciamento do ministro da Sa?de, Jos? Gomes Tempor?o
NADA. Isto
porque o governo brasileiro j? vem tomando TODAS AS PRECAU??ES E
Estados Unidos. Isto s? aconteceria no dia 2 de maio.
Foi mantido em isolamento domiciliar.
Passa bem.
Nenhum dos familiares manifestou sintomas.
Caso 4
Fiquem tranq?ilos. Estamos no controle da situa??o e at? o momento n?o h?
o www.saude.gov.br, onde est?o ? disposi??o boletins di?rios.
influenza A (H1N1).
popula??o e conter a doen?a no nosso pa?s.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH
Office of Social Communication
Press Division
Announcement of the Health Minister Jose Gomes Tempor?o
Bras?lia, May 7, 2009
Since the warning of the World Health Organization, done on April 25, the
Ministry of Health is maintaining full transparency on the
events and put into action its plan to prevent and contain the advance
disease in Brazil.
Yesterday, the Brazilian government received from the World Health Organization kits
which diagnose whether or not a patient has influenza A (H1N1).
The laboratory asked for a period of 72 hours to offer the first
results. But as they had time to study the protocols and do
all preparations for the handling of the kits pending
their arrival, the first results came out faster than expected.
Of samples that are already under consideration, obtained today, a confirmation that
four were confirmed as influenza A (H1N1). All infected
contracted the virus overseas.
Other tests of 93 suspected cases and in monitoring negative. Or
is, they do not have the disease.
15 are in the process of analysis, whose results will probably
tomorrow.
The arrival of the kits, therefore, allowed us to confirm that the virus reached the
Brazil.
But what changes in our strategy from this information? Nothing. This
because the Brazilian government has been taking all precautions and
All necessary measures to contain the disease, tracking,
monitoring and addressing potential patients.
A brief history of confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1) in Brazil:
Of the four confirmed cases of the disease in Brazil, two are from Sao Paulo, a
Rio de Janeiro and one from Minas Gerais.
Three of them came from Mexico and the United States.
The patients are young adults. All are well.
No children or elderly among the confirmed cases.
Case 1
Patient from S?o Paulo who was in Mexico from 17 to 22 April.
Began to show symptoms on April 24.
Was hospitalized between April 29 and May 4.
Moves well.
As the longest period of transmissibility of the virus is ten days, this
patient not at risk of infecting others.
Case 2
Patient from Minas Gerais who was in Mexico from 22 to 27 April.
Began to show symptoms on April 26, even in Mexico.
He was hospitalized the same day they arrived in Brazil.
Was discharged on April 29 because they had reported fever without scouting
by thermometer.
Household remained in isolation until the day on May 6.
Moves well.
As the longest period of transmissibility of the virus is ten days, this
patient not at risk of infecting others.
Case 3
Patient from S?o Paulo who was in Florida, USA.
Arrived in Brazil on April 28.
Began to show symptoms on 29.
Was not admitted because, according to World Health Organization,
this time, Florida was not considered in the area affected by disease
United States. This will only happen on May 2.
Was kept in isolation at home.
Moves well.
None of the family has symptoms.
Case 4
Patients in Rio de Janeiro who was in Mexico.
He returned to Brazil on May 3.
Began to show symptoms on May 2, still in Mexico.
Is admitted from the day on May 5.
Moves well.
Emphasize that the confirmation of cases shows that the monitoring systems
are working fully and the public is with the situation
controlled.
More: all cases were imported and there is no evidence that the
virus has infected other people in the country, ie the virus circulates in
country.
These procedures show that we have control over the possible cases of
disease and the ability to treat people infected.
I would say all patients are well.
So I want to assure everyone that we are prepared to contain the disease
pulse steady.
I should mention, for example, that Mexico, a country most affected by the flu,
has about 1 million and 800 thousand treatments available for your
population. Brazil already has enough to deal with at least 9 million
people.
I want to reaffirm that there is no change in the actions of the Ministry of Health All
which should be being done is being done.
We remain vigilant in ports and airports and land surveillance.
We have a structure built since 2000. This is a network of
in health surveillance to address the influenza virus.
In 2003, the Brazilian government has strengthened the surveillance system and prepared the
national laboratories for the diagnosis of disease.
And finally, back in 2005, created a group with representatives of various
ministries to carry out joint actions to combat the virus.
What is the message for the people:
Stay calm. We are in control of the situation and so far no
no record of man to man infection in Brazil. All cases were
contracted abroad.
The difference from yesterday to today is that confirmed cases of people who were
identified and are well.
I reiterate that we maintain complete transparency of our actions. Any
person can follow the events through the website of the Ministry of Health,
the www.saude.gov.br, where newsletters are available daily. Questions may
also be solved by Dial-health, number of free information
0800 61 1997.
My word for today is therefore that the population must be certain that
all recommendations of the World Health Organization are
followed.
Leave a major alert. People should not automedicar therefore beyond
of dangerous to your health, the medications may mask the disease.
All persons who come from countries affected or who have contact with
people who are suspected of having the disease and have the
symptoms, should should seek a health service that is ready to
receive them.
The symptoms are:
Sudden fever above 38oC and cough, and furthermore, you can also have
one of the following symptoms: difficulty breathing, headache, pain
muscle and joint pain.
These symptoms occur in up to 10 days after the person out of a region
affected by the disease.
We also need to be alert if the person had close contact in recent
ten days, with a person who is suspected of being infected by
influenza A (H1N1).
The Ministry of Health, states and municipalities, and doctors and
hospitals, we are all prepared and in full action to provide security to
population and contain the disease in our country.
