Brazil confirms 13,944 cases of coronavirus and exceeds 200,000 infected
Country registers 13,993 deaths by covid-19

Brazil again broke the record for the highest number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours. Another 13,944 confirmed cases were added to the balance sheet of the Ministry of Health on Thursday (5/14). With that, the country passed the 200 thousand cases mark and has 202,918 infected. The country also confirmed more than 800 deaths from the disease overnight. There were 844 new deaths, totaling 13,993 deaths from covid-19.

Without the presence of Health Minister Nelson Teich, who has not been present at press conferences since last Monday, it was up to the deputy secretary of Health Surveillance, Eduardo Mac?rio, to comment on the country's situation in a press conference held before the update of the Dice.
“The main message here is that we are still at the moment of growing cases, there is no prospect at this moment of stabilization or even decrease. It serves as a warning that not only managers and professionals, but also that the population takes the necessary care to avoid infection with the coronavirus ”, he said.
The high number of confirmed cases in the country places Brazil in sixth place in the world ranking of the most infected countries. Brazil is second only to the United States, Russia, United Kingdom, Spain and Italy.
Also according to the Ministry of Health, the new coronavirus has already reached more than half of the Brazilian municipalities, reaching 2,998 locations. More precisely, this percentage represents 53.8% of the total. Deaths are recorded in 1,087 municipalities, reaching all states and the Federal District.
The most affected states are S?o Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, which today equaled the number of new deaths, with an increase of 197. The state of S?o Paulo registered this Thursday, the second death of a child infected with the new coronavirus this week. The child victim lived in the capital, was only one year old and had comorbidities. Another four children have died with covid-19 in the state, all in Greater S?o Paulo.
The Ministry of Health also released the number of patients recovered from covid-19, compared to the previous day's figures. 79,479 of the 202,918 patients diagnosed with the new coronavirus were released. This represents 39.2% of people who have had the disease. Brazilians who did not resist represent 6.9% of this amount. Another 109,446 people are still being monitored.
So far, the ministry has distributed 257,800 boxes with 20 test kits. A total of 372,015 tests were carried out. The forecast is to provide 46 million tests, which will be distributed in five operational phases.
New data
At Thursday's press conference, the ministry released unpublished data showing that 199,768 health professionals have already been dismissed on suspicion of covid-19 in Brazil. In 31,790 of these frontline workers, the infection was confirmed.
The diagnosis of 114,301, that is, 57.2% of that amount, is still under investigation. Another 53,677 said it was negative for the virus. The ministry did not disclose the number of professionals who died from the disease.
